A representative of the Tam Coc - Bich Dong Tourist Area Management Board said that the program "green banh chung - reunion festival" was held at the Dinh Cac historical relic site, Van Lam village, Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district (Ninh Binh) to revive the tradition of making banh chung, which is fading away in many households during the Lunar New Year.

To prepare for the program of wrapping 5,000 green Chung cakes, the resort management board prepared 2 tons of sticky rice, more than 500 kg of green beans, dozens of kilograms of pork, dong leaves and other ingredients many days in advance.
"We prepared food for the Chung cake wrapping program early in the morning of January 31. After the ceremony took place, more than 100 people, including boatmen and people from Van Lam village, were mobilized to wrap Chung cakes, then moved to the tourist area's boat dock to cook the cakes," said a representative of the tourist area.

Mrs. Dinh Thi Khuyen (65 years old) confided: "The atmosphere of making banh chung every Tet holiday, spring has come, it has been a long time since everyone in the village has been able to join in again. For many years, the tradition of making and cooking banh chung has not been carried out at the village communal house. This year, our people have been able to relive the old memories, which is extremely meaningful."

Participating in the Chung cake wrapping program at the famous tourist area in Ninh Binh , local government leaders also immersed themselves in the Tet atmosphere with the people. Elders and villagers, regardless of age, male or female, who knew how to wrap the cakes all participated. Everyone sat together in front of the communal house yard, measuring rice, breaking leaves, wrapping cakes... creating more joy and warmth in the days before Tet.
Thousands of Chung cakes, after being wrapped and cooked, will be given by the tourist area to hundreds of boatmen’s families and households in Van Lam village for Tet. In addition, the tourist area’s management board will also coordinate with local authorities to give meaningful gifts to disadvantaged households in the area with the motto that every family has Tet.

The Chung cake wrapping program at Dinh Cac has also attracted many foreign tourists to watch. For many years, this has been a famous tourist area of Ninh Binh province, attracting thousands of foreign visitors each year. Local people mainly make a living by rowing boats to transport visitors and providing tourism services.
Ms. Anna from France expressed: "This is the first time I have come to Vietnam, and also the first time I have seen the traditional atmosphere of wrapping banh chung to celebrate Tet in your country. The Tet atmosphere is so warm, the work of wrapping banh chung is also very interesting, few places have it like in Vietnam".
