Nam Sang Plum growing model in Dong Tien hamlet, Ly Quoc commune, Cao Bang province
Sam Thang plum is a perennial variety (currently there are trees that are 20-25 years old), with the characteristic of usually flowering in December, January and ripening in June, July every year; the fruit is green when young, the inside is green, crunchy and sour. When ripe, the skin is red, the inside is yellow, and has a characteristic sweet and aromatic taste. The selling price of Sam Thang plum in households' gardens during each season ranges from 60,000 to 80,000 VND/kg, however, the output does not meet the local demand. After many years, this plum variety has aged and decreased in productivity, gradually lost valuable genetic resources, degenerated, mixed with impurities and the possibility of disappearing in nature. Therefore, the Thai Nguyen Center for Training and Research on Plant and Animal Breeding has carried out the task: "Research on conservation and development of genetic resources of Sam Thang Plum in Ha Lang district, Cao Bang province".
Through field inspection, the project has carried out: Investigation and assessment of the production status, genetic resource value and assessment of agrobiological characteristics of Sam Thang plum trees; Selection of excellent trees and construction of original seed gardens combined with perfecting the breeding process to serve the exploitation and development of plum genetic resources: 01 original seed garden (40 trees) - 600 Sam Thang plum seedlings; Application of technical advances to build a new planting model of Sam Thang plum varieties: planting Sam Thang plum varieties with a scale of 1.0 ha (500 trees/ha) with a survival rate of over 90%; Research to determine appropriate fertilization formula for plum varieties; Research the effects of pruning measures on growth, flowering and fruit set; Research the effects of foliar fertilizers on the yield and quality of plums; Perfecting the process of planting and caring for plum varieties suitable for ecological conditions, ...
The inspection team requested the host unit to continue to monitor and guide people on the planting and care process, urge the plum growing model to develop well and continue to complete the contents signed in the contract./.
