On the afternoon of June 23, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a national online conference to review the work in the first 6 months of 2025 and summarize the peak period of fighting, preventing and repelling smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and infringement of intellectual property rights.

The conference was held online, connecting from the Central to provinces and cities across the country.

According to the report of the National Steering Committee 389, in the first 6 months of 2025, the situation of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights has been complicated nationwide, especially violations in the fields of pharmaceuticals, food, health protection foods, fake milk... Units and localities arrested and handled nearly 50,000 cases, collecting nearly 6,500 billion VND for the state budget; prosecuted 1,899 cases with 3,271 defendants.

In the peak month alone, units and localities arrested and handled more than 10,836 cases of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods (an increase of 79.3% compared to the previous peak month); collected nearly 1,300 billion VND for the state budget (an increase of 258.4% compared to the previous peak month); temporarily seized goods and exhibits worth an estimated over 4,075 billion VND; prosecuted more than 200 cases with 378 defendants.

In Thai Nguyen, in the first 6 months of the year, the authorities discovered and arrested 638 cases, handling 670 subjects (a decrease of 132 cases, equivalent to 82.86% compared to the same period in 2024). Of which, 30 cases were criminally prosecuted, 72 defendants; 608 cases were administratively sanctioned with 573 subjects. The total amount of money collected for the State budget was over 38.3 billion VND. During the peak period (from May 15 to June 15, 2025), there was a situation where some clothing, footwear, cosmetics, etc. businesses closed their stores and temporarily suspended business. In addition to the reason to avoid inspection by authorities, business owners are also concerned about information about changes in tax policies when they have not had time to adapt...

Concluding the Conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: It is forecasted that in the coming time, the situation of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods will continue to develop complicatedly, with new and more sophisticated methods and tricks. The Prime Minister requested to continue to thoroughly grasp, deploy and seriously and effectively implement the directions of the Government, the Prime Minister and the Head of the National Steering Committee 389. All levels, sectors and localities must identify this as a key task, without stopping, without forbidden areas; promote the role and responsibility of the leader, the participation of the entire political system and the people.
