Due to the impact of storm No. 3 combined with heavy rain, flood water rose rapidly, causing damage to many rice fields, crops and aquaculture areas of Kien Xuong district. People in localities in the district are still proactively implementing preventive measures to minimize damage caused by floods.
Forces involved in troubleshooting the Muc pumping station discharge culvert, Minh Tan commune on the afternoon of September 10.
Mr. Tran Quoc Hoi , Chairman of Tra Giang Commune People's Committee, said: In recent days, almost all households with farms and aquaculture in the commune have proactively taken measures to protect livestock, move pigs and chickens into the main dike and protect aquaculture ponds. Especially for 28 households outside the dike area, right after receiving information about rising flood waters in the rivers, large livestock owners have raised the banks and fenced the nets 1.5 - 2m higher to prevent flooding. In addition, the commune regularly checks the dike, embankment and culvert systems, especially at vulnerable areas, to have timely response solutions.
11 households at Cu La culvert, Vu Hoa commune have been evacuated to a safe place.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Hoang, Truc Tam village said: My family has 4 fish ponds, the largest pond is over 1 acre, the remaining 3 ponds are from 2 to 5 sao. In nearly 14 years of raising fish, I have never felt as worried as this time because all 20 tons of square-head perch are still in the pond, ready to be sold but have not been sold due to the recent low prices. Meanwhile, I have been raising fish for over a year now, the cost of food sources is over 1 billion VND. Fearing that the flood will continue to rise, since September 10, I have bought nets to raise the height to nearly 2 meters and mobilized dozens of people to help so that if anything uncertain happens, the amount of fish lost will be reduced.
One of the fish farmers in Vu Binh commune, Mr. Phan Tien Hung, lamented: The flood caused by storm No. 3 this time is truly unprecedented in history, it has really threatened the property of large farmers like me. To minimize the damage caused before the storm hit, I had reinforced all 10 cages on the river to ensure the safety of over 50 tons of crispy fish in the cages. Therefore, things are still normal at the moment, but if the water continues to rise with strong winds, it is difficult to predict what will happen.
Also due to the impact of storm No. 3, some high-tech agricultural production greenhouses in Kien Xuong were damaged. Although the Green Agriculture Garden Hydroponics Cooperative in Hoa Binh commune had reinforced, tied with cables and removed the roof tarps before storm No. 3, the strong wind caused the entire greenhouse system to collapse.
Mr. Ta Huu Huan, Director of the Cooperative, said: After just over a year of operation, the market was stable, but storm No. 3 hit and cooled all hopes. All the effort and dedication put into the model is now just a pile of scrap metal. However, I will not be discouraged. It is expected that after the flood, the Cooperative will rebuild the entire greenhouse system and start planting again to provide the market with clean, healthy products.
Due to the heavy rain and floods, the water level in the fields of communes and towns is also increasing, with many areas of rice and crops deeply submerged in water. In recent days, all pumping stations in the district have been operating at full capacity to drain water as quickly as possible, protecting rice and crops.
Mr. Tran Hoai Nam, Head of Tay Son Cluster, Kien Xuong District Irrigation Exploitation Enterprise said: The station always arranges 100% of workers on duty to perform tasks and simultaneously operate 8/8 pumping units with a total capacity of 32,000m3 /hour to drain water to the maximum, ensuring safety for 600 hectares of agricultural production in Quoc Tuan and An Binh communes.
Workers operate the system at An Quoc pumping station, Quoc Tuan commune.
According to statistics from Kien Xuong district, due to the impact of storms and rains, as of the afternoon of September 11, the whole district had about 6,500 hectares of winter-spring rice flooded, about 1,000 hectares of rice damaged, 360 hectares of vegetables damaged, nearly 2,500 poultry died, about 130 hectares of aquaculture area affected, some sections of dike embankments and dykes were eroded, subsided, overflowed, and canals collapsed.
Kien Xuong district has focused on moving people and assets to safe places. Prepare materials, human resources, and means well to be ready to mobilize for key points according to the "4 on-site" motto; in addition, continue to arrange staff to regularly inspect dike works, key key points, proactively develop detailed plans, especially for evacuation, and be ready to respond when situations arise. Up to now, all people living outside the dike, aquaculture households on rafts have been evacuated to safe places. The district also focuses on propaganda and mobilization of people, quickly stabilize and restore production after the flood; support each other in the spirit of mutual love, mutual assistance.
