On the afternoon of November 7, at Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee, Mr. Duong Van Trang, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, presented 2,000 1-year-old Ngoc Linh ginseng seedlings (about 600 million VND) to Lai Chau province for experimental planting.
At the ceremony, Mr. Duong Van Trang hoped that 2,000 Ngoc Linh Kon Tum ginseng seedlings would be planted by Lai Chau province and would be propagated, expanded in area, and given to farmers to increase income.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Khai, Deputy Chief of the Office of Lai Chau Provincial Party Committee, said that the province has a total area of 447,000 hectares of forest, of which more than 40,000 hectares are located at an altitude of 1,600-2,300m above sea level. The natural conditions of these areas are similar to Kon Tum province, very favorable for the development of Ngoc Linh ginseng.
According to Mr. Khai, Lai Chau province recently also issued a Resolution on ginseng development for the period 2024-2030 and orientation to 2045. With the goal of striving to develop 3,000 hectares of ginseng, the 2,000 Ngoc Linh ginseng seedlings presented by the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee is a very meaningful gift.
Provincial leaders have directed the Lai Chau Ginseng Association to plant, care for, research, and develop this precious genetic resource for breeding and expanding the planting area for people, so that Ngoc Linh Kon Tum ginseng and Lai Chau ginseng will become key crops in socio-economic development in Lai Chau.
Up to now, Kon Tum province has developed more than 2,500 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng in 9 communes of Tu Mo Rong and Dak Glei districts, of which Mang Ri, Te Xang and Ngoc Lay communes have developed the most.
According to VietNamNet, ginseng seedlings are sold according to age: 1 year old (VND300,000/plant), 2 years old (VND500,000-600,000/plant), 3 years old (VND900,000-1.1 million/plant). The price of mature ginseng depends on the weight of the root.
The 30-root/kg variety costs around 70-90 million VND/kg; 20 roots/kg costs around 90-120 million VND/kg. The multi-year-old variety can cost up to 200 million or 250 million VND/kg depending on the buyer.
