
Before the final game, Gia Huy led by 6 points after 8 games but had to beat International Master Avinash Ramesh (India) to reach the International Grandmaster standard. With a rare opening choice in top-level chess, especially in Vietnam, Bang Gia Huy succeeded. Thanks to careful preparation and time advantage, Gia Huy forced his opponent to make mistakes, thereby winning after 46 moves.
At the end of the tournament, Gia Huy won 7 points after 9 games, achieving a performance equivalent to 2,601 Elo. Thereby, completing one of the three international Grandmaster standards needed to be awarded this noble title of the world chess village. He also increased by 19.7 Elo points, rising to the seventh position in Vietnam with a coefficient of 2,425.
This Grandmaster and International Master International Chess Tournament gathered nearly 100 players from 9 countries, competing in Ha Long from June 6 to 12 with the goal of helping players reach the standards of Grandmaster, International Master and FIDE Master. Gia Huy won the Grandmaster 1 (GM1) championship, while Thai player Laohawirapap Prin won the Grandmaster 1 (GM2) championship.
Bang Gia Huy is currently one of the three most promising young players in Vietnam, along with Dau Khuong Duy and Pham Tran Gia Phuc - faces expected to become the next international Grandmasters of Vietnamese chess.
Vietnamese chess currently has 13 international Grandmasters including: Dao Thien Hai, Tu Hoang Thong, Nguyen Anh Dung, Cao Sang, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Le Quang Liem, Bui Vinh, Nguyen Huynh Minh Huy, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Tran Tuan Minh, Nguyen Anh Khoi, Nguyen Van Huy, Le Tuan Minh. Of these, Hanoi has 4 international Grandmasters: Bui Vinh, Tran Tuan Minh, Nguyen Van Huy, Le Tuan Minh.
