(GLO)- I just returned from Sron village (Chu Krey commune, Kong Chro district), where the brilliant yellow royal poinciana tree has been causing a stir on social networks in the past few days.

In the last days of May, Kong Chro was hot and sunny all over. The sun was shining brightly with thousands of harsh rays. However, under the royal poinciana tree on the road to Srôn village, dozens of people still patiently stood in the sun waiting for their turn to take pictures with the carpet of yellow royal poinciana flowers that appeared for the first time in this place.

The Royal Poinciana tree is about 9 meters high, the diameter of the trunk at the largest point is only about 0.35 meters. The tree grows straight with many branches reaching up filled with colorful yellow flowers. From the exposed roots to the skin and trunk, the leaf style and flower shape of this Royal Poinciana tree are no different from other normal Royal Poinciana trees. The yellow flowers are the only difference compared to the Royal Poinciana trees of the same species that bloom in red, purple, white, pink or colors close to yellow as many people know and see a lot. The unique and strange color of this Royal Poinciana tree has attracted a number of people to come and take souvenir photos over the past few weeks, even though Sron village is more than 20 kilometers from the center of Kong Chro district, hundreds of kilometers from Pleiku.

After seeing photos of the yellow phoenix flower tree on social media, teacher Vu Thanh Tuyen and four colleagues from 30-4 Kindergarten (Cho Long commune, Kong Chro district) invited each other to take photos. They brought traditional ao dai to have the most satisfactory photos. Ms. Tuyen happily said: “After attending the year-end ceremony at the school, the girls drove more than 30 km on motorbikes to get here right away. Hearing friends talk about it, and then seeing photos on social media, seeing the strange yellow phoenix flower tree, I felt "frustrated" all week, not being able to bear not going to see it and take a few photos, brother."

Dang Hong Tham (Lo Po village, Chu Krey commune, 10th grade student of Ha Huy Tap High School) became a tour guide for students of Le Quy Don Secondary School (Kong Chro town) to visit this unique and strange royal poinciana tree. Tham shared that she felt very happy and proud that her commune had a royal poinciana tree with such strange and beautiful flowers.

Similarly, Gan (Srơn village) happily said: “My family lives here so I know this royal poinciana tree well. In the past few weeks, ladies from all over the place have come here wearing beautiful clothes to take pictures all day long, it’s so much fun.”

While stopping to admire the royal poinciana tree, I met Mr. Dinh Hoang Nguyen Son, a civil servant currently living and working in Pleiku City. He confided: “When I saw the picture online, at first, I thought this was a photoshop product. Then, I and some colleagues came here with the hope of seeing the golden royal poinciana tree with our own eyes. When we arrived and saw such a beautiful tree, we were truly amazed. Nature is truly strange!”

Why is there this strange Royal Poinciana tree? We went to find the answer. It turns out that the “father” of the yellow Royal Poinciana tree that is causing a stir on social media is right in the house opposite it.

Mr. Hnhâch (born 1937) said: Around 2001, the school in the commune gave him some royal poinciana seedlings. He planted them on his land, which is now where his son A Not's family lives. Only 2 out of the 8 royal poinciana trees mentioned above are still alive today. The tall royal poinciana tree stands by the village road, the other tree also has yellow flowers but is smaller, hidden behind the house.

According to Mr. Hnhâch, many years ago, in the summer, these two royal poinciana trees still bloomed red flowers normally. However, in the past few years, it has begun to change. Initially, half of the trees had red flowers, the other half yellow flowers. From last year until now, as scheduled in the summer, the royal poinciana trees only have yellow flowers left. “In the past few weeks, people have been coming here, parking their cars at my house and taking pictures there. I am also happy,” said Mr. Hnhâch.

According to documents, royal poinciana (or royal poinciana) has up to 5 flower colors: red, pink, white, purple and yellow. Some say that the yellow royal poinciana originated from America and is now grown in several places, including Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province.

Chu Krey is a commune in the revolutionary base area, located in the northwest of Kong Chro district. The Bahnar people here mainly work on the fields, and their lives are still difficult. Since the phoenix tree bloomed with brilliant yellow flowers, the peaceful village of Sron has become known to many people.
