The bakery just opened at 4:30 pm, but from 3:30 pm there were already a lot of people waiting on a road parallel to Highway 22 (Ba Diem Commune, HCMC).

The owner of the bakery stall, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh (born 1999, HCMC), said he opened the stall in mid-August, initially selling at 5 p.m. “For about a week now, there have been so many customers that my family has to start selling at 4:30 p.m., and in just over an hour, everything is sold out,” he said.

The "Douyin" tiramisu cake stall is causing a stir, attracting customers to line up to buy ( Video : Cam Tien).

On the stall's social media page, the owner said that on peak days he can sell up to 400 cakes.

Waiting for nearly an hour to buy the cake, Nguyen Thi Mai Huong (born 2007, Ba Diem commune, Ho Chi Minh City) recounted that the first time her relatives let her try it, she was impressed with the rich taste of butter tiramisu.

“I think this price is quite reasonable. I usually go to cafes to eat small pieces of tiramisu, the cake here is bigger, with added fruit to balance the sweetness, I think it is better for health,” she commented.

At the parking lot, Ms. Nhu Ngoc (Ba Diem commune, Ho Chi Minh City) held her young son, crying loudly, demanding to go home after having to wait for more than 45 minutes, while her 8-year-old daughter still tried to stand in line.

“This is the third time I’ve come here to buy bread. The previous two times I came here, the bread was sold out. I saw many coffee shops selling it, but my daughter insisted on eating here, so I had to wait to please her,” said Ms. Ngoc.

According to Dan Tri reporter, less than an hour after opening, many late customers were informed that there were no more cakes to serve and had to reschedule for the next day.

"Douyin" tiramisu cake is causing a fever

At this stall, traditional tiramisu cakes are sold for 50,000 VND each, while fruit and matcha variations cost 45,000 VND each.

The special thing about this stall is that the whole family helps out. While Mr. Tuan Anh is the one who directly stands at the counter, cuts the cakes and delivers them to customers, his girlfriend takes orders and calculates the payment. The two younger brothers are in charge of packing the boxes, carrying the cakes, and coordinating the flow of people. Thanks to that, even though the queue is long, the service process is still quite smooth.

In addition, the cake counter is located right in front of Mr. Tuan Anh's sister's beauty salon, so cold storage is always guaranteed.

“Seeing on Chinese social media and some bakeries selling the "Douyin" tiramisu style which is very popular, I also wanted to try it. I didn't expect to receive so much support, I feel very lucky,” Tuan Anh shared.

If traditional Italian tiramisu features a layer of ladyfinger cake (commonly known as champagne cake) soaked in coffee, interspersed with fresh cheese cream, cut into bite-sized squares, then the “Douyin” version has a more liberal spirit.

The cake is displayed on a large tray, covered with whipped cream and cocoa powder, green tea powder or colorful fresh fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, mango, avocado, green grapes, passion fruit... When sold, the cake is also cut into larger pieces.

This improvisation has turned “Douyin” tiramisu into a dish that can be enjoyed and photographed to post on social networks. Therefore, the name of the cake is also associated with the name of China’s largest social network platform.

The cakes are neatly packaged, reasonably priced, and offer both an “eye-pleasing” and “mouth-pleasing” experience. Perhaps, that is the formula that makes this cake not only popular in large stores but also booming at small street stalls.
