Good news for the people
Hoa Xuan Bridge, an important gateway connecting urban areas in the south of the city, is becoming a traffic jam black spot. During rush hour, traffic jams on Nguyen Phuoc Lan, Thang Long, Le Thanh Nghi, Cach Mang Thang Tam, Nui Thanh, 2 Thang 9 streets pour into Hoa Xuan Bridge. This situation not only causes difficulties for people to travel but also affects the economic and social activities of the area.
According to the reporter's records, every day at around 7am and 5pm, local traffic jams often occur at this intersection, with vehicles congested around the Hoa Xuan bridge and the access roads such as Cach Mang Thang Tam, Thang Long, and Le Thanh Nghi. Especially during rush hour, lines of motorbikes, cars, buses, etc. move slowly in line.
Therefore, since 2023, the Department of Transport (now the Department of Construction) has implemented a number of temporary solutions such as placing mobile barriers at the intersection of Thang Long Street and the north end of Hoa Xuan Bridge, banning cars during rush hours to reduce traffic; at the same time, traffic police are present to regulate vehicles passing through the intersection. Faced with the fact that traffic volume continues to increase, the city has approved the investment policy for this key project.
Mr. Pham Thanh, who lives on Le Thanh Nghi Street, said that when he heard the news that the city was investing in building a traffic intersection cluster, he was very happy and looked forward to the project being implemented soon.
Sharing the same opinion, Grab driver Le Tan Hung shared: “This is good news for all city residents. As a Grab driver, I cross Hoa Xuan bridge every day to go to work. Traffic jams here happen frequently, causing me to lose a lot of time and effort. Therefore, we, the people, hope that the city government will soon remove this vital traffic bottleneck.”
Meanwhile, Ms. Pham Thi Thu (a vendor at Hoa Cuong wholesale market) expressed: “Hearing that there is a project to invest thousands of billions of VND to renovate Hoa Xuan bridge and the surrounding intersection, everyone is happy. I hope it will be done quickly and on schedule so that people will not suffer from traffic jams…”.
Synchronized connection of technical infrastructure
The Cach Mang Thang Tam - Thang Long - Le Thanh Nghi - Hoa Xuan bridge traffic intersection project was approved with a total investment of more than 1,570 billion VND, implementation period from 2025 - 2029 and divided into two component projects.
Of which, the land clearance part of more than 129.5 billion VND is invested by the City Land Fund Development Center and the technical infrastructure construction part of more than 1,440 billion VND is invested by the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Traffic and Agricultural Works .
It is known that the scale of the project includes maintaining the status quo of Hoa Xuan bridge, building and expanding a new bridge branch downstream of the old bridge, and considering architectural options in the next steps.
At the intersection cluster on Hoa Cuong ward side, arrange underpasses on Cach Mang Thang Tam and Thang Long routes with service roads on both sides, arrange tunnels on Thang Long route and service roads on both sides of the tunnel.
At the same time, expand Le Thanh Nghi Street towards the park land (from Le No Street to the beginning of Hoa Xuan Bridge), expand Do Xu Bridge towards Khue Trung Lake, arrange a right turn from Le Thanh Nghi Street to Cach Mang Thang Tam on the bank of Khue Trung Lake.
Along with that, at the intersection cluster on the side of Hoa Xuan ward, invest in the riverside road under Hoa Xuan bridge, connecting Giang Huong 1 street to Ton That Duong Ky street, reorganizing traffic within the intersection.
The project will also relocate and build new technical infrastructure systems: water supply and drainage, lighting, 110kV, 22kV, 0.4kV power lines, wastewater drainage, communication systems... with the goal of completing traffic technical infrastructure according to planning orientation, synchronously connecting technical infrastructure systems in the area, promoting socio-economic development.
Thereby solving traffic congestion in the cluster area, improving traffic capacity and safety when traveling through the cluster.
