On August 3, the Investigation Police Agency of Lam Dong Province Police announced that it had temporarily detained four subjects involved in illegal pine logging in sub-area 224, Phu Son Commune, Lam Ha, a forest area managed by the Lam Ha Protective Forest Management Board.
The subjects prosecuted and temporarily detained by the police for violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection include: Dinh Duy Dao, born in 1981, residing in Lam Vien ward, Da Lat; Tran Van Van, born in 1980; Tran Van Bac, born in 1971, both residing in Phu Son commune, Lam Ha; Le Van Tam, born in 1975, residing in Xuan Huong ward, Da Lat.
Previously, the four subjects had illegally cut down dozens of ancient pine trees in sub-area 224, Phu Son Lam Ha commune. Authorities determined that a total of 68 three-leaf pine trees were cut down by the subjects. Many of these pine trees had a base diameter of 1m to 1.2m. The total volume of damaged wood was more than 150m³.
Working with the police, at first all four subjects were stubborn and did not admit to illegally exploiting the 68 pine trees. However, faced with the evidence that the authorities had investigated and collected, the group of subjects were forced to bow their heads and admit their actions.
Currently, the case is being further investigated by Lam Dong Provincial Police to clarify the roles of related individuals.
