Five people in a family were playing on a small island on a hydroelectric lake in Dinh Trang Thuong commune, Lam Dong province, when the lake water rose and flowed rapidly; two people got to shore safely, the rest were trapped.

On the evening of July 16, the People's Committee of Dinh Trang Thuong commune said that local authorities had just mobilized forces and people to coordinate to successfully rescue three people in a family trapped in the middle of Dong Nai 2 hydroelectric reservoir when the water rose high and flowed rapidly.

The incident happened at noon the same day, in Dinh Trang Thuong commune, especially in the Dong Nai 2 hydroelectric lake area, there was heavy rain that lasted for many hours.

The water level at Dong Nai 2 hydroelectric power plant suddenly rose and flowed rapidly, trapping three people in the middle of the lake on the afternoon of July 16.

At 3:00 p.m. the same day, the locality received a report that a family of five, including four adults and a 12-year-old child, residing in Tan Lam Lam Ha commune, Lam Dong province, was playing on a small island on a hydroelectric lake in village 2, Dinh Trang Thuong commune.

At this time, flood water from upstream poured in, along with the release of flood water from Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Plant, causing the water level in the hydropower reservoir to rise. At this time, two people were able to move to shore safely, the remaining three people including Mr. D.TT (32 years old), Ms. TTT (39 years old) and TTKL (12 years old) were trapped .

Upon receiving the news, the Dinh Trang Thuong commune authorities quickly notified the Dong Nai 2 hydropower plant to temporarily stop releasing water; at the same time, mobilized more than 30 officers and soldiers from the commune police, the commune military command, the security and order team of village 2 and people to use boats, life jackets and equipment to quickly approach the scene to deploy measures to rescue the trapped people .

By 5 p.m. the same day, rescuers had reached three people trapped in the middle of the lake as the water rose and flowed rapidly, and brought the trapped people to safety.

According to the Dinh Trang Thuong Commune authorities, in June 2024, a group of tourists were trapped in the area when the water level of Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Plant rose and flowed rapidly. At that time, the authorities promptly responded and brought the trapped people safely to shore.
