According to Motor1 , it's been almost three years since Lamborghini revealed its electrification plans. However, unlike the highly anticipated Ferrari Luce, which officially launched this week, the Lamborghini Lanzador remains just a concept car.
The Italian supercar manufacturer also confirmed that the two-door Lanzador GT will be a preview of a future all-electric supercar that customers can purchase, although this future doesn't seem likely to arrive as soon as expected.
According to the original plan, the Lamborghini Lanzador was scheduled to launch in 2028, but this was later postponed to 2029 and has now been indefinitely delayed. Similarly, the all-electric variant of the Urus was once planned to go on sale before 2030, but this has been canceled.
Lamborghini says it is still developing an electric model, but the official launch date has not yet been confirmed and the car certainly cannot be unveiled before 2030.
Speaking to CNBC , Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann affirmed that indefinitely delaying electrification is the right direction.
“Based on market observations, we have noticed that the trend of electric vehicle adoption among the specific customer group that Lamborghini targets has not increased. Therefore, Lamborghini has decided to shift from purely electric vehicles to plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles,” said Stephan Winkelmann.
When asked about the Ferrari Luce, the Lamborghini CEO simply stated that each brand and each car manufacturer has its own strategy and must make its own decisions.

Just a few months ago, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann told The Sunday Times that electric cars were an expensive hobby.
"Investing heavily in the development of purely electric vehicles when the market and customer base are not ready would be a costly pleasure and financially irresponsible behavior towards our shareholders, customers, and our employees and their families," said the CEO of Lamborghini.
Lamborghini is still planning to add a fourth model, increasing the diversity of its existing lineup of Temerario, Revuelto, and Urus. The 2+2 configuration Lanzador is undergoing technical development to integrate an internal combustion engine into a PHEV powertrain, similar to the company's current models.
Motor1 commented that Lamborghini understands the customer preference for internal combustion engines. However, electrification remains the inevitable direction, so the only way to satisfy customers and regulators is to "PHEV-ize" vehicles based on V8 and V12 engines.
