Nu Village wears a new coat, revives after flash flood disaster

(VTC News) - Nearly 3 months after the flash flood disaster, the people of Lang Nu (Lao Cai) have new, spacious and solid houses to gradually ease their pain and build a new life.

On December 15, 2024, new, spacious houses in the reconstruction area of Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province were handed over to the people.

The project is under the responsibility of Army Corps 12, Truong Son Construction Corporation.

The resettlement area of Lang Nu village started construction on September 21. Phase 1 covers an area of 10 hectares, with 40 houses and auxiliary works. Each family is given 1,000 square meters of a new, spacious house.

According to the design approved by Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee and with the consensus of the people, 40 new houses were built in the model of traditional Tay stilt houses, with auxiliary works such as kitchens, toilets...

At the end of the year, people in Lang Nu are busy decorating their houses, from installing curtains and room dividers to hanging lanterns and decorating the space for Tet...

"The people of Lang Nu thank the State for caring and helping people rebuild their lives after the flood. With a new house, we don't have to worry every rainy and stormy season, and can work and produce with peace of mind," said Hoang Van Nho.

The new vegetable gardens planted by the people of Lang Nu contribute to beautifying the resettlement area.

In addition to housing, the resettlement area also has schools, cultural houses, transportation systems, electricity and water to ensure stable and long-term living conditions for residents with the criteria of "Model Village" - green, clean, beautiful, civilized and modern and "Happy Village" - people's lives are prosperous in both material and spiritual aspects,education , health care and culture.

On the morning of September 10, a terrible flash flood buried 33 households in Lang Nu village near the foot of Voi mountain, killing 60 people and leaving 7 people missing.
Field survey results show that the landslide originated from an altitude of 744 m near the top of Voi mountain, creating a mudflow that encountered a 100 m narrow bend, creating a temporary "dam", which burst and collapsed into the residential area.
About 1.6 million cubic meters of mud and rock fell on the village in just 5 minutes. The mud and rock flood was about 3.6 km long with an affected area of 38 hectares, the accumulation depth of the mud flow was 8-15 m, the deepest was about 18 m.
