Leaders of Central provinces hope to soon build high-speed railway to enhance connectivity

On August 1, in Da Nang City, the working delegation of the Socio -Economic Subcommittee (the 14th National Congress of the Party) worked with provinces and cities in the North Central and Central Coast regions on regional planning.

At the meeting, leaders of provinces and centrally-run cities proposed early investment in high-speed railway lines to facilitate travel and socio-economic development of localities.

Specifically, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, said that it is necessary to frankly propose to the National Assembly the policy of developing high-speed railways connecting localities in the region.

According to Mr. Quang, traveling in the North Central and Central Coast regions is very difficult, flights are limited. Currently, the highway system is being built, and if we want to develop tourism, to develop it faster, we need high-speed railways and invest in different sections and routes.

"Recently, when flights were difficult, Da Nang's tourism development was thanks to transporting passengers by rail, specifically the train route connecting Hue and Da Nang. If it is a priority, it is necessary to develop high-speed railways in the region," said Mr. Quang.

According to Mr. Do Minh Tuan, Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, to make a breakthrough in infrastructure, we must make a breakthrough in transportation, trying to somehow have a North-South high-speed railway. The current highways need to continue to be completed and invested synchronously because currently some places have 6 lanes, some places have 4 lanes.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Thai Thanh Quy, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Nghe An province, said that we are currently building a highway, and in the near future we need to invest in a high-speed railway. At the same time, we need to pay special attention to the cross-border routes connecting the East to the West to strengthen the connection between localities, regions, and areas...

According to Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, in addition to the North-South high-speed railways and international high-speed railways, urban railways are very necessary. We are currently piloting in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and if we delay, we will have to pay a lot in money.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that the problem of regional planning poses many problems, some planning belongs to the national region, some regional planning problems pose for each locality. How to make regional planning a reality, what is the priority in regional planning, institutions, including organization and role, regional mechanisms must be put together.
