( Bqp.vn ) – On the evening of September 9, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long and Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen, Secretary of the Party Committee, Political Commissar of Military Region 2, along with the Central Working Group, inspected and worked with the leaders of Lao Cai province on the situation of responding to and overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 in the province. Attending the meeting were comrade Dang Xuan Phong, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Lao Cai province; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong; members of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and leaders of departments, branches and localities in the province.

Preliminary statistics from Lao Cai province show that in recent days, heavy to very heavy rains have occurred in the province, causing flash floods and landslides, sweeping away, burying, killing 16 people, 12 missing and 15 injured; 1,200 houses affected; nearly 900 hectares of crops buried; many roads were eroded, flooded, and partially blocked; dozens of irrigation works, schools, and medical stations were affected. The estimated damage is over 100 billion VND. Lao Cai province has mobilized maximum forces according to the "4 on-site" motto to help people overcome the consequences of floods.

Speaking at the meeting, Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen shared the difficulties that Lao Cai province is currently facing; at the same time, he emphasized that Military Region 2 is ready to create favorable conditions to support dry food, clean water, and rescue boats to help Lao Cai people overcome the consequences of natural disasters according to local requests. In the immediate future, Military Region 2 will support Lao Cai province with 1 ton of rice and 1 ton of dry food to provide to people who are isolated due to the circulation of storm No. 3.

Appreciating the proactive response of Lao Cai province and Military Region 2, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long requested Lao Cai province to strictly implement the Prime Minister's instructions on urgently concentrating efforts to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3; proactively evacuate people in unsafe areas; strictly control and prevent people from going through overflows and flooded areas; promptly overcome the situation of localities in the province being cut off and isolated; promptly provide food and provisions so that people do not go hungry or thirsty. The Deputy Prime Minister requested Lao Cai province to continue to forecast the situation well and be ready to prepare forces and means for unexpected situations that may occur.
