On the afternoon of July 9, in Yen Bai ward, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lao Cai province held a conference to meet with tourism businesses, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam's tourism industry (July 9, 1960 - July 9, 2025).
The conference aims to express gratitude and listen to opinions from the business community, while orienting local tourism development strategies in the new context.
Attending the conference were representatives of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the Vietnam Tourism Association; leaders of Lao Cai province, departments, agencies and nearly 250 delegates from businesses, accommodation establishments, travel agencies, investors, training institutions...
Currently, Lao Cai tourism has become an important economic sector of the locality, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, creating jobs and improving people's lives, with about 35,000 workers having regular jobs.
Key destinations such as Sa Pa, Bac Ha, Nghia Lo, Tram Tau, Mu Cang Chai, etc. continue to play a leading role, creating a favorable foundation for the entire industry to accelerate towards completing tourism goals and targets in 2025.
However, Lao Cai still faces many challenges such as: limited awareness of the role and integration of tourism; uneven competitiveness; shortage of human resources, especially international guest service staff; increasingly complex degradation of tourism resources and environment under the pressure of socio-economic development.
Many landscape, ecological and biodiversity values in national parks and nature reserves are declining. The encroachment and degradation of cultural and historical structures is also worrying due to the impact of uncontrolled development activities.
At the conference, experts such as Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Trung Luong shared about the tourism development strategy of Lao Cai after the merger. Representatives of enterprises and cooperatives also made many proposals related to support mechanisms, tourism product planning, infrastructure development, human resource training, digital transformation, as well as simplifying procedures for tourists entering border areas...
From the advantages, difficulties and recommendations of enterprises, Lao Cai province has proposed 5 key orientations for tourism development in the coming time such as: Improving the quality and diversifying tourism products, encouraging the participation of enterprises and the community. Developing sustainable tourism, associated with preserving nature and local culture.
Invest in infrastructure development, prioritizing major projects such as Sa Pa Airport and the expansion of the Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway. Promote domestic and international tourism promotion. Strengthen international and regional cooperation and linkages, especially in major economic corridors, to effectively develop tourism.
At the Conference, the new Executive Board of Lao Cai Provincial Tourism Association was introduced and a cooperation agreement on propaganda and promotion between Lao Cai Newspaper and the Provincial Tourism Association was signed.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 10 outstanding collectives and 10 individuals with outstanding achievements in developing Lao Cai tourism.
