According to information from the Ministry of Home Affairs , about 155,000 workers have been sent to work abroad under non-profit programs, contributing about 17,000 billion VND in foreign currency annually. This is one of the important sources of foreign currency for the country.
In particular, the programs have made an important contribution to sustainable poverty reduction and social security, especially for workers in policy-based areas, remote areas, and particularly disadvantaged areas. In particular, the cooperation program between localities of Vietnam and Korea has been implemented in 16 provinces and cities, sending more than 10,000 workers to work in seasonal agriculture in Korea.
However, there are still many problems related to a number of workers who do not comply with discipline, violate contracts, run away... If these limitations are not promptly resolved, they will directly affect the image and reputation of Vietnamese workers, the image of the locality, and the program of sending workers to work abroad under international agreements.
By the end of October 2025, the whole country had more than 128,000 people working abroad (more than 44,700 female workers), reaching more than 98% of the yearly plan, of which more than 57,200 people went to Japan; followed by Taiwan (China), South Korea...
As of October 31, the program for lending to workers to work abroad under contracts had an outstanding debt of more than VND1,156 billion, with more than 21,800 people still in debt.
