Free prosthetic limbs for the poor and disabled in the province

A delegation of professors, doctors and volunteer students from Mercer University fitted prosthetic legs for disabled people in Ben Tre .

This is the 18th time the volunteer group has come to the province. The head of the group is Professor - Doctor of Technical Medicine - Orthopedic Traumatologist at Mercer University in Macon (USA) Vo Van Ha. He is also a pioneer in designing and fitting low-cost prosthetic limbs suitable for developing countries, including Vietnam - his homeland. He was also awarded the title of "Honorary Dong Khoi Citizen" in 2023.

The delegation is expected to install 375 prosthetic legs and 80 artificial arms, and provide medical examination and treatment for 560 patients with bone and joint diseases in the province and some neighboring provinces and cities. The beneficiaries of bone and joint disease examination and prosthetic limbs are the poor, people with disabilities due to work accidents, traffic accidents, and those affected by post-war bombs and mines.
