Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , the commander of the Nha Trang Regional Traffic Police Team (Traffic Police Department, Khanh Hoa Provincial Police) said the above accident happened on the morning of October 13. At that time, driver C.D.T. (32 years old, residing in Gia Lai province) was driving a passenger bus from Phan Boi Chau Street to Dam Tron Market.
When the passenger bus turned into the area in front of Dam Tron market, it hit Mrs. T. (57 years old) who was selling goods there.
The collision seriously injured Ms. T.'s right leg and she was taken to the emergency room. Traffic police determined that the bus driver was not paying attention, leading to the accident.
The reporter's observations show that the area in front of Dam Tron market is where many passenger vans carrying tourists come to visit and shop. There is also a kiosk here for the authorities to monitor traffic order.
In addition, there are still many cases of encroachment on the sidewalk for business and trading, posing a potential risk of traffic accidents.
Install traffic cameras at Dam Tron market
The Commander of the Nha Trang Regional Traffic Police Team said that in recent times, the unit has regularly inspected and regulated traffic order and safety in the Dam Tron market area.
However, according to traffic police, there are still no traffic surveillance cameras in the above area, leading to difficulties in inspection and handling during the peak tourist season.
Mr. Ngo Khac Thinh - Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of Nha Trang Ward - said that although the ward's functional forces regularly take action, the situation of street vendors encroaching on the sidewalk to do business, posing a potential risk of traffic accidents, still recurs.
According to Mr. Thinh, the handling work encountered many difficulties due to the ward's limited force and low public awareness.
"Currently, Nha Trang ward is proposing to superiors to install security cameras in areas outside Dam Tron market to monitor and handle traffic violations," said Mr. Thinh.
Mr. Tran Quoc Sanh - Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Industry and Trade - said that the department has directed the police to coordinate with the market management board to regularly inspect and guide the flow of passenger vehicles entering and exiting the Dam Tron market area; resolutely handle the situation of encroachment on the sidewalk for business purposes, affecting traffic and urban beauty.
Khanh Hoa Department of Industry and Trade has requested Dam Market Management Board to arrange personnel to be on duty and control vehicles at locations where passenger vans frequently enter and exit to pick up tourists to remind them of illegal stopping and parking.
