On October 19th, at Canal 62, Area 7, Vi Tan Ward, Can Tho City, a mini-boat race (14 people) was held to celebrate the Oc-Om-Boc Festival of the Khmer people in 2025.
The race aims to create a joyful atmosphere among the Khmer ethnic community during the 2025 Oc-Om-Boc Festival; to strengthen and promote the cultural identity of the Khmer ethnic community in general and those who love mini-boat racing in particular, and to gradually introduce the race into local festivals.
According to Mr. To Minh Dien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vi Tan Ward, Can Tho City, the race attracted ethnic minorities and a large number of local people to participate with a spirit of solidarity and camaraderie.
In the future, the locality will organize the race on a regular annual basis, contributing to the successful implementation of cultural, artistic, and sports movements in the area.
Mr. Truong Thanh Long, Head of the Sau Say traditional boat racing team from Dinh Hoa commune, An Giang province, said: "This is the second year our team has participated in the tournament. This year, the team has been practicing for a month to aim for a higher ranking than last year. The team hopes that the local authorities will continue to organize the race, attracting more participants and contributing to improved health and team spirit."
This year's race features 37 teams from Can Tho city and An Giang province, divided into 8 groups competing in a round-robin format over a distance of 500m to select the top two teams from each group to advance to the next round.
After a day of fierce competition, the organizing committee awarded first prize to the Old Siamese team, second prize to the Six Ta Mun Reeds team, and third prize to the Third Pagoda team. /Pham Hau Giang
