On January 4th, 2026, at the Vegetable Village - An My residential area, Hoi An Dong ward, one of the most meaningful agricultural rituals of Da Nang will be reenacted: the Rice Planting Festival.
The festival ushers in a vibrant atmosphere, marks the beginning of a new harvest season, and offers unique cultural experiences for visitors.
From early morning, visitors will be immersed in the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony honoring the God of Agriculture and the Village Guardian God – a ritual deeply rooted in agricultural life for generations, expressing gratitude to heaven and earth and praying for a year of favorable weather. The sound of drums announcing the opening of the festival draws the entire community into a colorful celebration where tradition and modernity naturally intertwine.
On the open fields, the first furrows are being plowed using traditional buffalo plows, alongside the gentle sounds of tractors and rice transplanters – a testament to the transformation of local agriculture.
The moments when farmers guide their buffaloes, wade through the rice paddies, and maintain balance on the soft muddy paths become a "living film" for tourists to feel the authentic and proud rhythm of labor.
Visitors can dress in traditional Vietnamese clothing, roll up their trousers, and wade into the rice fields, getting their hands dirty with farming work: from plowing the land and planting rice to irrigating and catching fish along the banks.
With mud still clinging to your feet, you'll continue walking through the lush green vegetable patches in the village gardens, feeling the earthy scent and the tranquil rhythm of the villagers' work.
At the end of the journey, the experience of personally lighting a straw fire, cooking a fresh pot of rice, or boiling some hot potatoes makes it even more complete – rustic, joyful, and full of connection to rural life.
This is not just an eco -tourism experience, but also a way to appreciate the tireless labor of farmers – the guardians of the soul of rice-based civilization.
The lively atmosphere of the festival is further enhanced by the sounds and colors of Bài Chòi singing, folk excerpts, and cheers during community activities. All of this creates a vibrant and energetic festival, deeply rooted in the culture of Central Vietnam.
Along the festival area, visitors can stroll through the local market, where fresh produce, vegetables from An My vegetable village, and local OCOP products are displayed in a rustic style. Each stall tells a story about the craft, the village, and the community's perseverance in preserving green agriculture.
The rural food court opens with familiar aromas: Quang noodles, cao lau, banh xeo (Vietnamese savory pancake), banh beo (steamed rice cake), banh cuon (steamed rice rolls), banh dap (rice cake), tofu, sweet soup… All are served in a rustic style, allowing visitors to not only see but also taste the distinctive flavors of their hometown.
The rice planting festival is not simply a ritual marking the start of the planting season. It is a symbol of community cohesion, a story about the tradition of rice cultivation retold in a modern language, and a promising green tourism product of Hoi An Dong ward.
In 2026, the festival will not only be for local farmers, but will expand into an open cultural space where visitors can slow down, touch the rice paddies, chat with the locals, and leave in their hearts an image of a peaceful yet culturally rich Da Nang.
