Lautaro Martinez scores a masterpiece, Inter Milan narrowly wins over Asian team

Lautaro Martinez scored a beautiful goal as Inter Milan came from behind to beat Urawa Red Diamonds in extra time. This was the first win for the UEFA Champions League runners-up at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite being rated higher, Inter had a rough start when their Japanese opponent broke through in the 11th minute. Ryoma Watanabe took advantage of Inter's defensive mistake to score accurately, opening the score unexpectedly for Urawa.

The early goal forced Inter to push up their formation and control most of the first half. However, despite creating many chances, the blue-black strikers still lacked efficiency in finishing, preventing them from equalizing before the break.

Entering the second half, coach Cristian Chivu was forced to change tactics by sending Sucic, Mkhitaryan and Bastoni onto the field to increase pressure.

However, it wasn't until the 78th minute that Inter equalized thanks to a beautiful volley from captain Lautaro Martinez from a corner kick.

The drama reached its climax in the 90+2 minute when Carboni – a player who came on as a substitute – fired a neat shot, sealing a 2-1 victory for Inter.

This result helped the Serie A representative rise to the top of Group E with 4 points, while Urawa Red Diamonds were officially eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 after two consecutive losses.
