Merged from 5 communes of Lien Thuy, Xuan Thuy, An Thuy, Phong Thuy, Loc Thuy and Kien Giang town, Le Thuy commune is one of the typical low-lying areas of the province. With heavy rain lasting just a few days, many residential areas can be deeply flooded. Therefore, as soon as there is a warning of an upcoming heavy rain, local authorities and people prepare means, materials and forces to promptly respond when a situation occurs. A proactive spirit and readiness to respond to floods is an important factor in minimizing damage caused by natural disasters.

Mr. Le Van Tan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Le Thuy commune, said that, implementing the "4 on-site" motto, local authorities directly inspected and directed villages to review vulnerable areas, grasp information about the number of households in areas at risk of deep flooding to be ready to deploy evacuation plans.

At the same time, check the dyke system, embankments and key projects to promptly detect and overcome safety risks during the flood season. Local authorities recommend and guide people to proactively move their assets to high places and stock up on enough necessities for at least 3 to 5 days.

Loc An is a village located along the Kien Giang River, often suffering from flooding. On the afternoon of October 21 and the morning of October 22, people urgently moved their belongings, stored them in safe places and prepared means and plans to evacuate to a safe place. The commune's shock force and villages also proactively assigned people to be on duty, ready to support the evacuation of the elderly, children and vulnerable households.

Loc An village chief, Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, said that along with propaganda, guidance, review and understanding of the situation of nearly 550 households in the area, the village has prepared boats, generators and other items to prepare for natural disaster response, in which the village's community cultural house to avoid floods is ready to welcome about 300 people when the water level rises.

In addition to the plan to evacuate to the community cultural house to avoid floods, many households with solid houses have also prepared food, drinking water and essential items, ensuring proactive response for 3 to 5 days when the rain and floods last.

Ms. Tran Thi Phuoc's family, who lives right next to Kien Giang River, has proactively stored their belongings and prepared all necessities. Her house's flood-proof floor is designed higher than in 2020 to ensure safety against the complicated developments of floods in the coming days.

With a proactive spirit, thoroughly implementing the "4 on-the-spot" motto right from the beginning of the rainy season, the government and people of the low-lying area of Le Thuy are making efforts to minimize damage caused by natural disasters, ensuring safety and stabilizing people's lives.
