Tournaments in the European professional veteran golf arena are an opportunity for amateurs to compete alongside legends, continuing to demonstrate at Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023.
The predecessor of the Legends Tour was the European Senior Tour, founded in 1992, for professional male golfers over 50 years old. This arena quickly attracted many major champions, former world number one, former stars on the European Tour or US PGA Tour. Notable names in the history of the Legends Tour include Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, Ian Woosnam, Michael Campell, Thomas Bjorn... Campell, a New Zealander, had a resounding career achievement in 2005. That year, he won the US Open major championship after competing with a series of formidable names, including Tiger Woods.

In 2020, Legends Tour welcomed businessman Ryan Howsam into the parent company as a major shareholder. Since then, Howsam has determined that Legends Tour will develop according to the international tournament schedule, and the tournaments in the system will always be a bridge for the next generation to exchange and learn from the experiences of golf legends.
This week, that spirit continues to be promoted when the Legends Tour comes to Vietnam and Southeast Asia for the first time, through the Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023 tournament with three rounds of stroke play on the par 71 course at the Vinpearl Nha Trang golf resort complex. The event has 64 Legends Tour members competing alongside 26 Vietnamese golfers. The group of domestic players, both amateur and professional, competes as guests, including many young talents such as Nguyen Anh Minh, Nguyen Duc Son, Le Chuc An, Nguyen Viet Gia Han.
This morning, Vietnam's number one amateur Nguyen Anh Minh played in the same group with legend Campbell. After four holes, the 16-year-old Vietnamese golfer scored +3 (one par and three bogeys), while Campbell was even.
According to Anh Minh, the gap in skill level, age, competition experience... is huge, but he feels comfortable when being cheered on by fans, especially with his father's support.
During the competition, Anh Minh and Campbell often exchanged and chatted intimately on the field. The Vietnam Masters champion attentively observed every move and swing of the world legend. "I rarely watch legendary golfers compete, but competing with them right in Vietnam is a dream and will be very interesting," he said. "I don't idolize any of the legends coming to Vietnam this time, but I will definitely learn a lot and also hope to do something to surprise my opponents."
Anh Minh is a typical face of Vietnamese golf today, having won a silver medal in the team and a bronze medal in the men's individual at the 32nd SEA Games, won the 2023 Vietnam Masters professional tournament, and entered the top 30 of the 19th Asiad. Most recently, he became the Vietnamese golfer with the best performance at the prestigious Asia Pacific Amateur Championship 2023.
Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023 has a cash prize fund of 730,000 USD. The grand final will take place in Mauritius, from December 6 to 10. The Vietnam leg features all five players with the highest combined achievements after 14 events on the Legends Tour this season, shown in the Order of Merit, from the top, including Peter Baker, Adilson Da Silva, James Kingston, Phillip Archer, Phillip Price.
