'Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023 is an opportunity for Vietnamese golf to go far'

According to the leader of DIC Group, the tournament belonging to the Legends Tour system is held for the first time in Vietnam, helping domestic athletes reach their dream of competing with world legends.

Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023 takes place from November 27 to December 2, is a golf tournament within the European Legends Tour system, organized in collaboration with Viet Challenge Joint Stock Company. The Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) sends top national players to participate. Mr. Nguyen Thien Tuan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DIC Group, the accompanying unit, shared the reasons for bringing the tournament to Vietnam as well as expectations for the development of professional golf in the future.

- Why did DIC Group bring the Legends Tour golf tournament to Vietnam?

- Legends Tours is a prestigious tournament system. We want to help Vietnamese golf appear on the world map, creating a playground for Vietnamese athletes to compete and learn from top legends. When bringing the tournament to Vietnam, we put the interests of Vietnamese sports first, and at the same time want to promote tourism and the image of the country. In addition, the tournament also brings opportunities to connect businessmen with strategic partners, contributing to economic development.

Participating in organizing a large-scale golf event, part of the world-famous Legends Tour tournament system, is something DIC Group has never done before. But because the benefits that the tournament brings are so great, we are determined to do it.

- What is special about Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023 held at Vinpearl Golf Nha Trang?

- In my opinion, this is a tournament with many special features. The tournament brings together 60 legendary golfers of the world and 30 talented golfers of Vietnam, including national players such as Nguyen Anh Minh. It is not easy to have the opportunity to meet and compete with Michael Campbell, who defeated Tiger Woods and won the US Open 2005. This is very meaningful for the development of Vietnamese golf. From the Pro-Am friendly round to the official Alliance competition, the golfers continuously create top performances, dramatic races and at a very high professional quality.

The tournament also has a very large prize scale. Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023 has a prize of 31 billion VND. Of which the cash prize value is 730,000 USD, equivalent to 18 billion VND. The top 3 of the tournament will receive a prize of up to 200,000 USD (equivalent to nearly 5 billion VND). The prize structure also has 14 Hole In One (HIO) prizes, of which 6 prizes are VinFast VF 9 cars; 8 prizes are valuable prizes,... The total value of the HIO prize is more than 13 billion VND.

- How were the last few days of competition?

- There are so many wonderful things to tell in the past few days. That is the excitement of the legendary golfers before competing at Vinpearl Golf Nha Trang. This is an 18-hole course with a par-71 standard. The course has undulating fairways along the hillside, which is considered a challenge and also an interesting point when competing. In particular, the course has a very beautiful and majestic forest and sea landscape.

The tournament also witnessed the standard swings of the top stars, the class of Michael Campbell, Adlison Da Silva and the amazing hole-in-one created by Malcolm MacKenzie at the par-3 13th hole on the second official day of competition.

- From this tournament, what do you expect about the development of Vietnamese golf in the future?

- I am a golf lover, playing golf since before the sport developed in Vietnam as it is today. And as mentioned, it is not easy to have the opportunity to meet and compete with Michael Campbell. Not only Campbell, there are many other great golfers gathered at Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023. Being able to interact, improve experience, and at the same time be inspired by legendary golfers, Vietnamese athletes will improve themselves, dare to dream and go further, step by step developing golf in Vietnam.

- What is DIC Group's plan for the future?

- The Group is promoting the construction of a Golf Academy, expected to be located in the North, and at the same time implementing many golf course projects. I want this to be a springboard to help Vietnamese golf go further, first of all aiming to create quality athletes, capable of competing in tournaments in Southeast Asia, and further in Asia. I know this is not easy, but I always keep in mind that whatever I do, I must put all my heart and professionalism into it, especially things that are beneficial to the development of the country.

In terms of business, DIC Group is promoting the development of tourism real estate projects including tourist areas, condotels, high-standard hotels associated with international brands in tourist cities or located in the company's urban tourism projects.
