Thus, by mid-autumn, Russian oil exports to EU countries had increased by a third - to 687.5 million EUR - the highest level since February this year, with a total value of 690 million EUR.
This was mainly due to a doubling of exports to the Czech Republic – to EUR 185.9 million from EUR 91.3 million a month earlier.
Supplies to Hungary also increased significantly - by 1.5 times, to EUR 233 million. In addition, the Netherlands slightly increased oil imports from Russia to EUR 60.7 million from EUR 40.5 million a month earlier.
However, on the contrary, Slovakia in October reduced its oil purchases from Moscow by 8% to EUR 207.9 million.
In December 2022, Western sanctions officially came into effect. The ban prohibits EU countries from importing oil from Russia by sea.
Exceptions are being made for supplies via the Druzhba pipeline because some landlocked countries would have difficulty finding alternative supplies.
The 27-member bloc has recently officially approved the 15th package of sanctions against Russia. The package will include tougher measures against Chinese entities and many ships belonging to Moscow's "dark fleet".
