Set in a bustling urban setting, Rainbow on the Horizon revolves around two single-parent families living next door to each other in the same apartment complex.
On one side is a young father named Tuan, who is having a hard time taking care of his young daughter (An Nhien), while also having to take care of his senile old father. On the other side is Oanh, a practical and strong-willed person, who struggles alone amidst the hustle and bustle of making a living to raise her son (Gia Nghia).
Tuan and Oanh are "enemies", often disagreeing, and arguing whenever they meet. However, after going through many things, the two gradually understand each other, support each other, and fall in love without realizing it.
The "hate first, love later" motif is quite familiar on the screen, but Rainbow on the Horizon is not a movie that promotes love.
