The predecessor of the AVC Nations Cup is the AVC Challenge Cup, a tournament in which the Vietnamese women's volleyball team won twice in a row in 2023 and 2024.
Although the tournament name and meaning have changed, the competition format remains the same. This year, 11 teams are divided into 2 groups. The host women's volleyball team Vietnam is in group A with lower-rated teams Australia, India, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
If they can show their form and class, the ticket to the semi-finals is almost certain to be in the hands of coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team.
The list of players participating in this year's tournament of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team still includes familiar names such as Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, Doan Thi Lam Oanh, Nguyen Thi Trinh... Besides, there are the additions of Luu Thi Ly Ly, Nguyen Thi Phuong and the return of Nguyen Thi Uyen, Tran Thi Bich Thuy.
This is a fairly even squad with a lot of experience. Last year, the Vietnamese volleyball girls made a surprise when they won the bronze medal at the FIVB Challenger Cup world tournament.
Therefore, they are highly appreciated for a ticket to the semi-finals at the AVC Nations Cup. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team is even a strong candidate for the championship.
At 8pm on June 7, the home team will have their opening match against Hong Kong. In the world rankings, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is ranked 32nd while their opponent is ranked 60th. Fans will definitely want to see a victory for the home team on the opening day.
All matches of the 2025 AVC Nations Cup Women's Volleyball Tournament will be broadcast on OnSports platforms.
