According to Odditycentral , Japanese luxury ice cream brand Cellato has just set a Guinness record by creating an ice cream dish worth 880,000 yen (equivalent to 6,700 USD, about 150 million VND) per serving.
Accordingly, Guinness World Records has certified Byakuya (meaning "white night" in Japanese), Cellato's new protein-rich ice cream, as the world's most expensive ice cream.
The reason Byakuya ice cream is so expensive is because its ingredients include edible gold leaf, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and sake lees.
In particular, the ingredient also includes Alba white truffles, the most expensive edible mushroom in the world, priced at up to 350 million VND/kg and a rare ingredient known as the "diamond of the kitchen".
Each Byakuya ice cream box also comes with a hand-crafted metal spoon created by Takeuchi craftsmen in Fushimi, Kyoto, using selected techniques and materials.
Cellato recommends letting the ice cream soften before eating, until the metal spoon can easily scoop out the smooth ice cream. Users can then mix in the accompanying truffle oil for a richer flavor. The company also recommends pairing Byakuya ice cream with a glass of aged white wine.
"It took us over a year and a half to develop with a lot of testing to get the perfect flavour," a Cellato spokesperson told Guinness.
The ice cream maker is planning to launch other flavoured ice creams, including ingredients like champagne and caviar.
Cellato enlisted Tadayoshi Yamada, the head chef of RiVi - an Osaka restaurant known for its fusion cuisine combining European and Japanese ingredients - to create Byakuya ice cream.
If customers can afford to pay VND150 million for a 130ml portion of ice cream, the company recommends eating it within 10 days to fully enjoy the flavor and texture.
If the order is from a distance, within Japan, Cellato will transport the ice cream by air, frozen to ensure the flavor.
Cellato also sells a much cheaper ice cream called Starry Night made with black truffles and chocolate for 10,000 yen ($73).
