As a new vegetable introduced to Vietnam, spinach (also known as chaya spinach) is being sought after by many people. However, experts note some issues when processing this vegetable.
Spinach (also known as spinach chaya) is a new species introduced to Vietnam, the height of the plant is about 4 - 5 meters if the plant is fully developed. Recently, many people have bought seeds to plant, used as a daily vegetable thanks to its sweet taste and very characteristic crunchiness.
However, according to many experts, raw chaya leaves contain hydrocyanic glucoside, which can be toxic, so the leaves of MSG need to be cooked before eating because this active ingredient will decompose under the increased temperature during processing. Young leaves should be cooked for 5-10 minutes, older leaves should be cooked for 15-20 minutes.
MSG is easy to grow and can be propagated by cuttings. The original MSG plant is cut into small pieces 20 - 30cm long, each stem has 2-3 nodes. These cuttings are usually taken from the top or bottom of the stem.

Remove the leaves and dry the cuttings in the shade for 3-4 days. Then, plant the cuttings in a 10-12cm deep layer of soil in nursery pots or directly in the ground. If you plant the cuttings in pots, you need to give the plant plenty of light. Water the plant regularly but avoid waterlogging.
Once the plant has taken root, it can be moved from the nursery pot to the garden, and the soil around it or the base of the plant covered with straw to prevent weed growth.
Planting should be done at the beginning of the rainy season for the tree to grow and develop well, and nitrogen fertilizer can be added to keep the tree healthy. Do not harvest more than 50% of the total leaves and tops of the tree to ensure normal growth.
Bina Chaya is a drought-tolerant plant that can grow in both hot and shady conditions. It is also resistant to many pests and diseases, has good yields, and can be grown as a hedge for edible vegetables.
According to many studies, spinach contains many essential nutrients for the human body.
Bina Chaya leaves are more nutritious than many leafy green vegetables such as spinach, cabbage and amaranth. The leaves are rich in protein, calcium, iron and vitamins A and C.
