(Dan Tri) - The search for missing people and funeral arrangements for those killed in the horrific flash flood in Lang Nu village (Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province) are being urgently deployed by authorities.
As of 5:30 p.m. yesterday, September 11, the flash flood and landslide in Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province) had killed 35 people and left 60 missing. Soldiers and police officers waded through the rain and mud to help people carry a coffin up the mountain to bury the victim. Rescue work, searching for missing people, arranging funerals for the dead and treating the injured in the flash flood in Lang Nu village are being urgently deployed by local authorities and forces, in conditions where it is still raining and mud is flowing over a large area. The militia of Phuc Khanh commune brought a coffin up the mountain for the victims' relatives to take care of the funeral. The main path leading to the burial ground was buried by flash floods, so soldiers had to cross mountains and forests. Carrying the coffin up the mountain was very difficult because of the bushes and slippery roads. The muddy roads did not deter the team of officers and soldiers. A body was found at the scene of the landslide and was taken home by soldiers, fire police and rescue workers for burial. In addition, people also proactively use motorbikes to carry coffins home to bury their loved ones according to local customs. Coffins piled up in the area of flash floods and landslides. A dump truck carrying about 12 coffins gathered at the Cultural House of Lang Nu village to support people in burying their relatives who were unfortunately buried by flash floods. Soldiers of Regiment 98 (Division 316) assisted people in bringing coffins down to the Cultural House of Lang Nu village. Lang Nu village has 37 households with 158 people. Of these, three people are over 70 years old, 18 are under 6 years old, 14 are under 14 years old, and the rest are from 15-69 years old. Military Region 2 sent 300 officers and soldiers of the main regiment to participate in search and rescue work. According to the deployment plan, 100 soldiers will search along Nu stream from Chay river; 200 soldiers will search directly in the landslide area. The mobile police force, hundreds of people from the district and province, and a large number of people will also coordinate the search. Currently, in the search area, it is still raining, the mud is soft, in some places the mud is buried about 10m deep, so the search is facing many difficulties. The authorities have built a map, determined the locations and plans to search for the victims. Identifying that the search is facing many difficulties and will last for many days, Provincial Party Secretary Dang Xuan Phong requested the forces to calculate the most accurate, safe and effective plans.
