Luka Modric announces time to leave Real Madrid

In an emotional letter to fans on Instagram , the 39-year-old midfielder shared his feelings about his journey of more than a decade at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"The time has come. The moment I never wanted has come, but that's football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end. Next Saturday (May 24), I will play my last game at the Bernabeu. Playing for Real Madrid has changed my life, both as a player and as a person. I am proud to have been part of the most successful period in the history of this great club," Modric wrote.

Joining Real Madrid in 2012 with the desire to wear the prestigious white shirt and conquer the heights, Modric admitted that he never dared to imagine his journey would be so brilliant.

Modric thanked the team members, especially president Florentino Perez, and those who have helped him throughout the past time.

"Together we experienced magical Bernabeu nights, incredible comebacks, unforgettable titles and celebrations. But above all, what I take with me is the love of the fans. I leave with a heart full of pride, gratitude and unforgettable memories. I will always be a madridista ," Modric continued.

The Croatian midfielder's career peak was probably the 2017-18 season, when he won the Champions League and the 2018 Ballon d'Or, breaking the dominance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. That year, Modric played a good role as a "conductor" when he led the game and led Croatia to the World Cup final, only to lose to France.

"After the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, I will no longer wear the Real Madrid shirt, but I will always be a Real fan. Madrid will always be my home, for the rest of my life. Come on Madrid, and nothing more," Modric concluded.

Modric came through the Dinamo Zagreb academy. He was a mainstay at Tottenham for four seasons in the Premier League, before moving to Real Madrid. Among the successes Luka Modric has achieved in 13 seasons at Real are 6 Champions League titles, 6 FIFA Club World Cups, 5 European Super Cups, 4 La Liga, 2 Copa del Reys and 5 Spanish Super Cups. To date, Modric has played 590 games, scoring 43 goals for Los Blancos .
