On October 1, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine in Ho Chi Minh City decided to recognize the list of admitted PhD students in 2025. This list includes 25 PhD students, including PhD student Au Nhat Huy (24 years old) who is being "scrutinized" by the scientific community for suspected "plagiarism".

Au Nhat Huy is being accused of "plagiarism"
On the page "Scientific Integrity", an account named To VAR pointed out that Au Nhat Huy, born in 2001, had just graduated from Tan Tao University with a medical degree in August 2025. Less than two months later, Huy became the youngest candidate to pass the doctoral exam at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine as the second-highest candidate.
Au Nhat Huy will study internal medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, where Huy's mother - Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor of Medicine, II Tran Thi Khanh Tuong - is the Dean and Head of the Department of Internal Medicine.
Right before graduating as a doctor, in just 8 months, from November 2024 to July 2025, Au Nhat Huy published at least 9 articles. Of these, 7 were co-authored by Huy with his mother.
Thus, in the final year of his medical graduation exam from Tan Tao University, Au Nhat Huy published an average of more than 1 article per month. In May 2025, April 2025 and November 2024 alone, Huy had 2 articles per month.
Au Nhat Huy's mother was recognized as Associate Professor in 2020. According to the Associate Professor application, candidate Tran Thi Khanh Tuong declared that she had published 6 scientific articles in prestigious international journals in which she was the main author.
The VAR Team account pointed out that in reality, most of the candidate’s international articles were published in predatory journals, many of which are no longer accessible. If these articles were not counted, candidate Tran Thi Khanh Tuong might not qualify as an Associate Professor. The candidate also falsified the index and Impact Factor of the journals, and falsified conference abstracts as prestigious articles in her application for the Associate Professor title.
The latest article by mother and son doctors Tran Thi Khanh Tuong and Au Nhat Huy was published on July 14, 2025 in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases: Journal of the COPD Foundation.
Almost the entire content of this article was published 6 months earlier, on January 28, 2025, in the Vietnam Medical Journal.
This is an act of self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, and a serious violation of scientific integrity. If Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases: Journal of the COPD Foundation were a serious journal, the English article with the names of the mother and daughter would have been removed.
According to the VAR Team, it is worth mentioning that the Vietnamese article has 6 authors:
1. MSc. BSCKII Doan Le Minh Hanh - Department of Internal Medicine, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine
2. Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor of Medicine, IInd Doctor Tran Thi Khanh Tuong - Head of Faculty of Medicine, Head of Internal Medicine Department, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine
3. Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Le Thuong Vu - Head of Respiratory Department, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City
4. Dr. Le Thi Thu Huong - Head of Respiratory Department, Gia Dinh People's Hospital
5. Dr. Vo Hong Minh Cong - Deputy Director of Gia Dinh People's Hospital
6. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai - Director of Gia Dinh People's Hospital
Au Nhat Huy's name was completely absent from the Vietnamese article. However, in the English article, Au Nhat Huy's name was added to the article along with 3 other people.
List of 10 English article authors:
1. MSc. BSCKII Doan Le Minh Hanh - Department of Internal Medicine, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine
2. Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Le Thuong Vu - Head of Respiratory Department, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City
3. MSc. Tran Le Doan Hanh - VinUniversity
4. BSCKII Tran Thanh Du - Head of Examination Department, Gia Dinh People's Hospital
5. MSc. Doan Le Minh Thao – Teesside University
6. MSc. Au Nhat Huy - Tan Tao University
7. Dr. Le Thi Thu Huong - Head of Respiratory Department, Gia Dinh People's Hospital
8. Dr. Vo Hong Minh Cong - Deputy Director of Gia Dinh People's Hospital
9. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai - Director of Gia Dinh People's Hospital
10. Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor of Medicine, IInd Doctor Tran Thi Khanh Tuong - Head of Faculty of Medicine, Head of Internal Medicine Department, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine
Thus, Au Nhat Huy's name is not in the Vietnamese article, he did not contribute to the research but was named as a co-author of the English article with a fake master's degree.
Along with Au Nhat Huy, 3 other people were also named in the English article: Tran Thanh Du, Tran Le Doan Hanh and Doan Le Minh Thao.
Doan Le Minh Thao may have a (sisterly) relationship with the first author Doan Le Minh Hanh. Is it possible that Doan Le Minh Hanh put his sister's name in the article to gain credit for her?
What is the relationship between Tran Le Doan Hanh and Tran Thanh Du or other authors? Tran Le Doan Hanh is a student at VinUniversity, how can she have a master's degree?
According to the VAR Team, the English article with the name of the mother and daughter doctor has many serious problems and will almost certainly be removed by the magazine:
[1] Self-plagiarism, duplicate publication.
[2] Au Nhat Huy's name was attached to the article with a fake master's degree.
[3] Three others were also added to the author list, most likely due to connections rather than any substantial contribution to the research.
Au Nhat Huy went straight to his doctorate right after graduating from university. One of the conditions for direct study is that candidates must have research experience, demonstrated through published scientific articles and reports.
Which article or articles violated integrity that Au Nhat Huy used in his admissions application?
Faced with the above doubts, on the morning of October 8, a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper contacted the leaders of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine but was unable to connect.
