Việt NamViệt Nam12/05/2024

Taking advantage of local advantages, farmers in Ly Bon commune (Bao Lam) focus on planting, caring for and protecting forests. Forest planting models are widely replicated, bringing practical results to people in increasing income, improving life, and gradually developing sustainable forestry.

As one of the most disadvantaged communes in the district, people's farming activities still face many obstacles due to the mainly hilly and mountainous terrain. The cultivation of rice, crops, and fruit trees is still fragmented and small-scale, not bringing high efficiency. In order to effectively promote the advantages of the hilly and mountainous terrain, in recent times, afforestation has become a widespread movement among the masses and is a profession that brings stable income to local people.

Mr. Tan Dau Quay, Phieng Pen hamlet, Ly Bon commune said: My family boldly converted some natural forest areas to grow over 5 hectares of star anise, 2.5 hectares of sa moc and 1.5 hectares of sua wood. Currently, star anise trees have been exploited, on average each year the family processes over 450 kg of star anise essential oil to sell to the market at a price of 350 thousand VND/kg. Thereby, there is a certain additional income to serve the family's daily life and develop production.

Identifying forestry development as an important task in socio -economic development associated with environmental protection and climate change response, the Party Committee and the communal government promote forest planting, care and protection activities. Develop policies to support forest economic development in the direction of improving productivity and efficiency, transforming forestry production practices from extensive to intensive forest cultivation, increasing the rate of production forest planting associated with restructuring the forestry sector.

The work of allocating land and forests to people has been well implemented, regularly propagating and replicating effective forest planting models to improve people's lives and forest coverage. From 2023 to present, the commune has planted 2,480 trees of all kinds, newly planted 122 hectares, bringing the total forest planting area of the whole commune to over 400 hectares, mainly anise and cinnamon trees.

Identifying forest economic development as one of the local strengths, the commune focuses on afforestation in the direction of sustainable development, expanding production forests. In 2023, the district supported nearly 6 billion VND from the capital of the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority Areas to support cinnamon and anise varieties... Continue to effectively implement forest management, care and protection, especially forest fire prevention and control, constantly promoting the potential and strengths of the commune in forestry development, exploitation and effective use of forest resources. Average income reaches over 22 million VND/year; the rate of cultural families annually reaches over 85%. On average, each year, 5% of poor households are reduced...

To develop the forest economy more effectively, the Party Committee and the communal government continue to direct the sectors, organizations, and hamlets to do a good job of propagating and mobilizing people to implement the conventions on forest protection and development in residential areas, thereby helping to exploit forest resources effectively. Support preferential loan policies for people to plant forests; improve the quality of forestry varieties suitable to local soil conditions; apply advanced forestry cultivation measures in the direction of high-tech application; seek and expand the market for consuming planted forest wood...
