According to journalist Ben Jacobs, on the evening of December 31st (local time), Chelsea's management met with agent Jorge Mendes to discuss terminating Maresca's contract. Internally, the board of directors agreed that a change of manager was necessary.

One of the biggest conflicts leading to Maresca's departure involved Chelsea's medical department. The club's management insisted that decisions regarding training volume, fitness management, and player welfare should be made independently, not solely dependent on the head coach.

This viewpoint directly conflicts with the working style of coach Maresca, who wants to have greater control over player selection and rotation.

From Maresca's perspective, he felt he wasn't receiving the necessary protection from the club and believed there was too much interference from the top management, leading to serious problems in his relationship with the owners. This significantly damaged trust between the two sides.

Following the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on December 31st, manager Maresca did not appear before the media. Contrary to initial reports suggesting he was experiencing health problems, the Italian coach actually chose to decline to speak in order to consider his future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's leadership also expressed concern upon discovering that manager Maresca had held initial discussions with Manchester City. This move surprised many within Chelsea, who believed the Italian coach had lost focus during a crucial stage of the season.

From a professional standpoint, Chelsea's performance under Maresca has not met expectations. "The Blues" dropped as many as 20 points despite having the advantage in the Premier League and Champions League, raising doubts about the team's mental fortitude and ability to control the game.
