Ukrainian M270 system destroyed in Kherson direction
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on September 10 that the Russian military destroyed a US-made M270 multiple launch rocket system of Kiev forces in the Kherson direction.
In a statement, the Russian Defense Ministry said that a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) was targeted by Russia with an Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile near the Malaya Seydeminukha settlement.
The precision missile strike destroyed the launcher along with support vehicles and a number of Ukrainian soldiers, the report added.
The Iskander-M missile used to attack launchers has a range of nearly 500km. It can be equipped with a variety of conventional warheads, including cluster munitions, fuel-air enhanced explosive warheads, high-explosive fragmentation warheads, ground-penetrating warheads for bunker busting, and electromagnetic pulse devices for anti-radar missions.
This highly maneuverable missile is guided by a GLONASS-supported inertial navigation system. It can also be equipped with an optical seeker with a digital scene mapping area correlation system for terminal guidance.

Ukraine received at least 16 US-made MLRS systems and MARS II (German-made version of this system) from the UK, Norway, France and Germany after Russia's special military operation in Ukraine began.
The Russian military has destroyed or damaged several Ukrainian MLRS, MARS II systems, and some of the approximately 40 M142 HIMARS systems delivered to Ukraine by the United States over the past two years.
The M270 can fire 12 rockets in less than 60 seconds.
The M270 system is a highly mobile rocket artillery system manufactured by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control Company - a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation (USA).
It is a highly mobile automated system based on the M270 weapon platform. The MLRS fires surface-to-surface missiles and ATACMS.
Each launcher is equipped with up to 12 GMLRS M30/M31 series guided missiles, with a range of over 70km, or 2 MGM-140 ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles with a range of 165km to 300km depending on the version, in two separate launch tubes. The system can fire up to 12 MLRS missiles in less than 60 seconds.
The missiles can be fired individually or in batches of 2 to 12. The basic MLRS tactical missile warhead contains 644 M77 projectiles, which are delivered over the target in mid-air.
The MLRS's computerized fire control system allows the launcher to be loaded and unloaded by a single crew member.
