Malaysia opens new durian tourism program with 62 tours including sightseeing, culinary , and resort experiences to attract tourists.
Featured tour packages include:
Jom Pi Dusun: A relaxing day trip with local durian tasting, fresh honey and traditional Malaysian lunch by the river.
Durian with Mother Nature Glamping: Three days and two nights stay at a modern jungle chalet, enjoy traditional Malaysian rice dish nasi lemak with durian and relax in a hot spring.
Genting Highlands & Durian: Full day tour to Musang King durian orchard in Raub district, combine durian tasting with coconut water and Skyway cable car ride to Genting Highlands.
Kuala Selangor - Sekinchan - Durian Tour: The two-day, one-night trip includes eagle watching, firefly river cruise, Sky Mirror beach view and durian tasting at the homestay.
I Love Durian Fullboard Package: Visit Durian Man SS2 - a famous shop in SS2 area, Petaling Jaya - specializing in fresh durian and durian products, combined with a visit to Genting Highlands, Batu Caves and Petronas Twin Towers.
Sehari D Dusun: A day of eating durian combined with river rafting, jungle trekking and tree walking.
Tours cost from $15 to $40 per person, depending on the day or tour, with groups ranging from $80 to $255 for groups of 2 to 8 people.
Akbal Setia, Americas Regional Manager at Tourism Malaysia, said the launch of these packages underscores the growing popularity of Malaysian durians and culinary tourism. Durian tourism is booming in Malaysia, especially during the harvest season from late May to August.
“With the new tour packages, Malaysia offers visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in local traditions,” Setia said.
The durian, with its distinctive scent and thorny shell, holds a special place in Malaysian culture. With the newly announced tour, Malaysia is inviting visitors to join the new wave of cultural and culinary tourism. The country’s tourism industry expects to sell around 2 million different durian tours in 2024 and 2025, starting at $15, underscoring the popularity and quality of these packages.
