Cunha is MU's first new player this summer. |
"Manchester United is delighted to confirm the transfer of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 26-year-old Brazilian has signed a long-term contract until June 2030, with the option to extend for a further year," the Old Trafford club said in a statement.
Cunha said on his unveiling: "Putting on the red shirt of Manchester United is a dream come true. Since I was a child, I have always admired United through Premier League matches on TV, and today, I have the opportunity to be part of the team. I am very grateful to my family and everyone who helped me achieve this."
According to The Athletic , MU agreed to pay the full £62.5 million release clause for Cunha. He signed a 5-year contract with the "Red Devils" and debuted in the early stages of the summer.
Cunha scored 33 goals in 92 appearances during his two-and-a-half seasons at Wolves and has been hailed as a perfect fit for Ruben Amorim’s system. Cunha typically operates as a left-sided No. 10, capable of playing as one of two advanced strikers, but is also comfortable dropping deeper into a supporting midfield role to carry the ball from deep.
At 26, Cunha is entering the prime of his career. His talent, creativity, and footballing ability are no longer in question. The question is whether MU is the ideal destination to help this arrogant guy reach his full potential.
