Mercedes-Benz is preparing a major shift in its electric vehicle strategy as it plans to stop producing the EQE Sedan and EQE SUV from 2026. The decision comes after the company re-evaluated its product portfolio and found overlap with upcoming new models.
The EQE Sedan is currently assembled at the Bremen plant in Germany, while the EQE SUV is produced in Tuscaloosa, USA. Although there were plans for a mid-life upgrade that would see the EVA platform upgraded from 400V to 800V, along with new technologies such as silicon-carbide inverters and eATS2 electric motors, these improvements are now limited to the EQS line.

According to insiders, the EQE Sedan will be replaced by the electric E-Class EQ, expected to launch in 2027, using the modern MB.EA-M platform. Meanwhile, the C-Class EQ sedan will launch in 2026, adding many high-end technologies such as air suspension and rear-wheel steering.
In the SUV segment, the GLC EQ will be introduced at the IAA Mobility 2025 exhibition. This model has a spacious luggage compartment of 570 L, plus 128 L in the front trunk, surpassing the 520 L of the EQE SUV. The car also has a maximum towing capacity of 2,500 kg, promising to be more practical for family users.

In Vietnam, Mercedes-Benz only distributes the EQE SUV version EQE 500 4MATIC with a launch price of 3.999 billion VND. However, due to lower-than-expected purchasing power, the current listed price has dropped to 3.559 billion VND. In the global context, Mercedes-Benz's restructuring of its electric vehicle portfolio may cause the EQE series to soon withdraw from the Vietnamese market to make way for the C-Class EQ, E-Class EQ and GLC EQ generations.
The discontinuation of the EQE Sedan and EQE SUV marks a strategic shift by Mercedes-Benz, moving towards a new generation of electric vehicles based on the MB.EA-M 800V platform. This is not only a move to optimize production costs, but also an affirmation of the three-pointed star brand's commitment to improving performance and practicality, meeting the increasingly high expectations of global customers.
