Messaging app crashes, annoying users worldwide. |
From around 2pm ( Hanoi time) on February 11, Messenger and WhatsApp started experiencing problems. Users could not send messages, even though the network connection was stable. The transmitted content was displayed as “sending” for a long time. The problem appeared globally, regardless of the connected device. Users in Vietnam were also affected.
On the DownDetecter website, the number of Messenger error reports increased sharply between 2pm and 3pm, peaking at nearly 1,000. Most customers reported being unable to send messages. “Messages still cannot be sent on both phones and computers. There is a message saying ‘unable to send’. Tried another browser but still failed. I also changed phones to send but it was extremely slow,” said Jean in TN.

In addition to sending messages, users also reported that calling/ video calling functions were also not possible.
“I thought it was my internet connection. But I can still watch YouTube normally. So Messenger is down, right?” user @sharmanipol posted on X. The keyword Messenger Down was also mentioned in thousands of posts on the social network on the afternoon of February 11.
By around 3 p.m., the connection was stable again. Messages that had been on hold were sent again, and Messenger’s features were restored. During the outage, Meta (Facebook’s parent company) did not provide any updates on the issue, confusing users. Even after the issue was resolved, the social network did not respond.
On the service status update page, Meta shows that all products are still working normally, without any problems.
Messenger is one of the most popular messaging tools in the world . It currently has about 1 billion active users, behind Whatsapp and WeChat. At the same time, Meta's products often have errors that affect a large number of users. In December 2024, many of the company's services were interrupted for hours.
