Ruoming Pang is the chief engineer in charge of the Foundation Models team - the artificial intelligence development unit for Apple Intelligence. He played a key role in creating smart summary, Genmoji, and the improved Siri assistant.
Before joining Apple, Pang spent 15 years at Google Brain and co-founded the popular Zanzibar authentication system. Meta offered him a compensation package of more than $200 million a year, mostly in stock with long-term retention conditions.
This compensation is second only to CEO Tim Cook and far exceeds all current engineering salary limits at Apple. Apple decided not to pursue financial competition because the spending was too "over the line." Pang's departure is seen as a major blow to Apple's AI strategy at a crucial time.
Pang's hiring is the latest step in Meta Superintelligence Labs' plan to build a cutting-edge AI team. Dear readers, please watch more videos : AI Trash Cleaning | Hanoi 18:00
