International visitors to Phu Quoc island.
According to the Department of Tourism of Kien Giang province, implementing Resolution No. 80/NQ-CP of the Government, Phu Quoc Economic Zone (Kien Giang) is subject to a visa exemption policy for foreigners entering and staying for 30 days. This content is implemented according to the provisions of Clause 7, Article 1, Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam, effective from July 1, 2020.
Director of Kien Giang Province Department of Tourism Bui Quoc Thai said that the long-term visa exemption policy for international visitors has been creating favorable conditions to promote tourism and the economy of Phu Quoc to develop commensurate with the potential of the pearl island.
“To attract more international tourists to the pearl island for sightseeing and relaxation, Kien Giang continues to propose increasing the visa exemption period to 6 months for foreigners who directly enter the Phu Quoc coastal economic zone, or come to Phu Quoc from other international border gates within Vietnam (by air), stay in the transit area at that border gate, and then transfer to Phu Quoc,” said Bui Quoc Thai, Director of Kien Giang Province Department of Tourism.

To contribute to simplifying procedures, promoting the implementation of administrative procedures in the electronic environment, continuing to create more favorable conditions for foreigners to enter, exit, transit, and reside in Vietnam and for agencies, organizations, and individuals to invite and welcome foreigners to enter Vietnam, the Ministry of Public Security has completed the draft dossier of the Law on amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam and completed collecting comments from agencies, organizations, and individuals.
Notably, our country will unilaterally exempt visas for international visitors to Vietnam for up to 45 days (for 15-day visa exemption areas); 1-month areas will increase to 3 months, including Phu Quoc City.
The draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval according to the procedure at the 5th Session of the 15th National Assembly, scheduled to take place in May 2023.
Many businesses and tourism experts believe that the determination to create more flexible mechanisms from upcoming visa policies will contribute significantly to attracting international visitors to tourist destinations, exploiting their potential, and promoting recovery and growth for Vietnam's "smokeless industry".
