International tourists visit Phu Quoc Island.
According to the Kien Giang Provincial Department of Tourism, in accordance with Government Resolution No. 80/NQ-CP, the Phu Quoc Economic Zone (Kien Giang) is granted visa exemption for foreigners entering and staying for up to 30 days. This is implemented in accordance with Clause 7, Article 1 of the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam, effective from July 1, 2020.
According to Bui Quoc Thai, Director of the Kien Giang Provincial Department of Tourism , the policy of long-term visa exemption for international tourists has been creating favorable conditions to promote tourism and the economy of Phu Quoc, allowing it to develop in line with the island's potential.
"To attract more international tourists to Phu Quoc Island for sightseeing and relaxation, Kien Giang continues to propose extending the visa exemption period to 6 months for foreigners directly entering the Phu Quoc coastal economic zone, or arriving in Phu Quoc from other international border gates within Vietnam (by air), staying in the transit area at that border gate, and then transferring to Phu Quoc," said Bui Quoc Thai, Director of the Kien Giang Provincial Department of Tourism.
Foreign tourists watch art performances at GrandWorld Phu Quoc, the city that never sleeps.
To contribute to simplifying procedures, promoting the implementation of administrative procedures in the electronic environment, and further facilitating the entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners in Vietnam, as well as the invitation and reception of foreigners by agencies, organizations, and individuals, the Ministry of Public Security has completed the draft of the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam and has completed the process of soliciting feedback from agencies, organizations, and individuals.
Notably, Vietnam will unilaterally extend visa exemption for international visitors to 45 days (for areas with a 15-day visa exemption); and for areas with a 1-month visa exemption, it will be extended to 3 months, including Phu Quoc City.
The draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval according to the procedure at the 5th Session of the 15th National Assembly, expected to take place in May 2023.
Many businesses and tourism experts believe that the determination to create a more flexible mechanism through upcoming visa policies will significantly contribute to attracting international tourists to tourist destinations, exploiting their potential to the fullest, and promoting the recovery and growth of Vietnam's "smoke-free industry".
