People's Artist Trong Phuc transforms into Buddha
As part of the 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival event series, the international Buddhist music and art exchange program directed by the Central Cultural Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha will take place on the evening of May 7 at Thisky Hall, Sala Thu Duc Urban Area, Ho Chi Minh City.
The 20th United Nations Day of Vesak 2025 will take place from May 6 to 8 at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy (Le Minh Xuan Campus, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City). It is expected that about 3,000 delegates will attend, including about 1,300 international delegates from 85 countries and territories and more than 1,500 domestic delegates, along with thousands of monks, nuns, and Buddhists.
The program has the participation of Buddhist art troupes from many countries such as India, China, Korea, Cambodia, Thailand... contributing to enriching the cultural exchange content within the framework of Vesak 2025.
Meritorious Artist Le Trung Thao transforms into Buddha
Meritorious Artist, Master Huynh Khai shared: "This is an opportunity for the public to enjoy works of art with Buddhist colors, through which to introduce the culture of the countries participating in this meaningful event in Ho Chi Minh City. Particularly, the art of Don Ca Tai Tu and Cai Luong theater, over the years, have composed many works from literary scripts to ancient songs, folk songs, and melodies on the subject of Buddhism, will have the opportunity to express the very unique perspective of the art of Don Ca Tai Tu of the South - an intangible cultural heritage representing humanity recognized by UNESCO, blending with the unique features and quintessence of the arts of other countries in this important event".
For artists, this event is not only an occasion to honor the birth, enlightenment and passing away of Buddha Shakyamuni, but also an international cultural festival with the theme "Harmony and Inclusion for Human Dignity: Buddhist Insights for World Peace and Sustainable Development". One of the highlights of Vesak 2025 is the Buddhist art performances from many countries.

Regarding the reformed theater stage, in addition to the two works "Searching for the Truth" and "The Truth of Buddha Shakyamuni" by Thanh Nga Buddhist Reformed Theater Troupe, artist groups in Ho Chi Minh City also organized performances at pagodas with excerpts about the life of Buddha.
On the cai luong stage, many artists have successfully portrayed the role of Buddha and this time they will have the opportunity to transform into plays such as: "The Legend of Buddha Shakyamuni", "In Search of Truth", "The Golden Light of Religion", "The Buddha King Tran Nhan Tong"...
Meritorious Artist Le Trung Thao is highly regarded for his frequent portrayal of Buddha in many plays by the Thanh Nga Buddhist Opera Troupe. He shared: "Every time I take on the role of Buddha, I feel like I am standing in front of a mirror reflecting my inner self. I not only learn dialogue and sing vọng cổ, but also learn how to calm my mind. This role cannot be performed with technique, but must be performed with faith and respect."

When the artist understands the truth of compassion and wisdom, every step on stage becomes a sacred step. People's Artist Minh Vuong has successfully played the role of Prince Ajatashatru. He said: "Playing the role of Buddha is my blessing. The role requires serious performance in singing and acting and above all, an optimistic spirit to convey to the audience."
Meritorious Artist Vu Luan also said that being able to act in a Cai Luong play about Buddha is a great blessing, because when performing this role, the artist will have valuable lessons in his life to overcome limitations from his career to his life.
