The World Environment Day 2025 was launched by the United Nations Environment Program with the theme “End Plastic Pollution”. This is not only a call but also an urgent global warning. Plastic pollution is becoming one of the most serious challenges to our living environment.
According to the United Nations Environment Program, the world produces about 430 million tons of plastic each year, of which more than two-thirds are single-use products that quickly become waste. In Vietnam alone, an estimated 1.8 million tons of plastic waste are generated each year, of which only about 27% are recycled, most of which are buried or burned, causing waste of resources and potentially negative impacts on the environment, ecosystems and community health.
Representatives of departments, branches and district and commune People's Committees signed a commitment to implement the Waste Classification at Source Model.
Realizing the importance of environmental protection, preventing plastic pollution, and improving the quality of the living environment. In recent years, implementing the direction of the Party and the State, the province has issued many fundamental and strategic directives, creating a synchronous and unified legal framework for implementation such as: Plan No. 3714/KH-UBND dated November 14, 2018 on launching the "Anti-plastic waste" movement; Plan 992/KH-UBND dated May 4, 2021 implementing the Project "Promoting propaganda on plastic waste prevention and control for the period 2021 - 2025" in the province; integrating communication work on plastic waste reduction in the Project on classification, treatment, and recycling of concentrated and dispersed solid waste in the province approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 623/QD-UBND dated May 25, 2023. Up to now, the province has deployed 3 models of "Say no to plastic bags and single-use plastic products" at Pac Bo National Special Relic Site (Ha Quang); Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourist Area, Dam Thuy Commune (Trung Khanh); Thanh Cong Commune (Nguyen Binh). In addition, the city has deployed a model of collecting plastic waste for recycling. Since then, many important results have been achieved: The economy has continuously developed and grown; the economic structure has shifted towards gradually increasing the proportion of industrial development and trade and services; the local budget revenue has increased over the years; socio-culture has developed, the poverty reduction program has achieved many results, people's lives have gradually improved; national defense and security have been maintained, striving to achieve the economic development goals set by the Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term.
At the rally, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Cao Bang province, sent a call to all levels of government, the business community and people to join hands to act for a Vietnam without plastic waste.
At the same time, representatives of departments, branches and district and commune People's Committees signed a commitment to implement the waste classification model at source in three communes: Dam Thuy, Chi Vien, Phong Chau. At the same time, delegates planted trees, union members and youths organized weed clearing, waste collection, flower planting, dredging drainage systems and displaying local products.

The rally in response to World Environment Day and the Month of Action for the Environment in 2025 in Cao Bang province is not only an opportunity to raise awareness but also a practical and strong call for each individual, organization and government to join hands in protecting the environment. The effective implementation of the waste classification model at source and environmental protection activities will contribute to preserving the natural beauty and sustainable development for the green - clean - beautiful homeland of Cao Bang.
