
At noon on July 22, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Uong Viet Dung said that Van Don International Airport and Cat Bi International Airport have opened to receive and operate aircraft since 12 noon on July 22.
“Currently, these airports have met the conditions to receive aircraft. However, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also continues to require Cat Bi and Van Don International Airports to continue strictly implementing the Regulations on organizing aircraft operations in adverse weather conditions to ensure absolute safety,” the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam emphasized.
In response to the developments of storm No. 3, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has decided to temporarily suspend the reception and operation of aircraft at airports within the affected area of storm WIPHA on July 21, 2025 and July 22, 2025 (local time). Accordingly, Van Don International Airport from 11:00 p.m. on July 21, 2025 to 12:00 a.m. on July 22, 2025; Cat Bi International Airport from 11:00 p.m. on July 21, 2025 to 12:00 a.m. on July 22, 2025.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requested Noi Bai International Airport and Tho Xuan Airport to continue monitoring meteorological bulletins and propose appropriate adjustments to operational plans.
Quick reports from units show that as of 5:00 p.m. on July 21, 2025, there were 129 flights that had to change routes to avoid the storm on July 18, 19, and 20.
There were 57 flights that had to circle and wait on July 19. There were 13 flights that had to be diverted to alternate airports; of which, 11 flights were to Noi Bai International Airport; 2 flights were to Tho Xuan Airport). On July 21, Van Don International Airport canceled 3 flights; Cat Bi International Airport canceled 33 flights.
