More than 3,000-year-old tomb opens to visitors

After many years of restoration, the mausoleum now has a completely different look. The murals from floor to ceiling shine even in the dim light.

In the center of the tomb, visitors see a giant granite sarcophagus lid engraved with hieroglyphs.

Decades of deterioration have left the 3,000-year-old structure at risk of collapse. To save it, more than 260 experts – including highly trained restorers, researchers and technicians – have been working to internationally recognized standards of integrated conservation.
