The rice-shrimp farming model is expanding towards organic production, reducing emissions, limiting the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, protecting the environment, and improving the quality of agricultural products.
In the field of digital transformation, the industry is implementing the Ca Mau provincial agricultural database system to support the management of production and farming areas, monitor environmental changes and diseases, and serve real-time management and direction. In addition, some models applying IoT technology in aquaculture have initially yielded positive results, such as monitoring water quality and automating some stages in production, helping to reduce costs, mitigate risks, and increase productivity.
The sector is also implementing the digitization and cleaning of land records and data, expected to be completed in 2026; aiming to reduce and simplify administrative procedures related to land, build a geographic database and specialized data systems to serve state management, provide public services, and support citizens and businesses in accessing information more quickly and transparently.
- In the coming period, what strategic solutions will the sector focus on to promote green agriculture and digital transformation?
Mr. Bui Tu Hai: The Department of Agriculture and Environment has determined to continue using science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as the driving force for the development of the agricultural sector towards a green, smart, and sustainable direction. Ca Mau province is developing a Digital Transformation Plan for the agricultural sector for the period 2026-2030, focusing on management and operation based on digital data, with people and businesses at the center of service. The focus is on completing digital infrastructure, building a synchronized database on land, agriculture, environment, fisheries, meteorology and hydrology, geography, etc., ensuring that the data is "accurate, complete, clean, and relevant," interconnected, and shared.
One of the key tasks is to deploy large-scale digital platforms such as the Ca Mau Provincial Agricultural Database Management System (Agri Geo Platform), IoT systems for environmental monitoring and smart production, agricultural and aquatic product traceability systems, smart operational reporting systems, and data platforms for real-time management. The application of AI, Big Data, GIS technology, blockchain, and IoT will be promoted in environmental monitoring, aquaculture management, disaster warning, disease forecasting, and product traceability, aiming to improve the efficiency of state management and the competitiveness of the province's agricultural sector. The province will continue to expand green production models, circular economy models, organic farming, and low-emission agriculture; promote the development of smart shrimp supply chains; and support farmers in applying electronic logs, traceability, and participating in digital platforms for production and consumption.
Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Huynh Quoc Viet, along with leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment and other departments and agencies, visited the giant freshwater prawn rice model in U Minh commune.
In the field of environment and climate change adaptation, the sector will gradually build a smart marine and coastal monitoring system, a digital MRV system to serve the mangrove carbon credit market, and develop a green economy and low-carbon economy.
Focus on training digital human resources, enhancing digital skills for officials, civil servants, cooperatives, and citizens; implement the "Digital Literacy Movement" so that people can access, exploit, and effectively use digital platforms in production and daily life.
With this orientation, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau province expects that digital transformation will not only improve the efficiency of state management but also create new value for people and businesses, building an ecological, modern, sustainable agriculture that effectively adapts to climate change.
Thank you, sir!
