The push from the road

After many years of mobilizing resources to focus on opening roads, building infrastructure, beautifying and developing urban areas, by June 2025, the city will have a total of 74 bridges longer than 25m with a total length of 14.9km (not including bridges on highways); there are 2,498 routes with a total length of 1,458km.

Of which, urban roads have a total length of 1,109km (not including 2,446km of alleys, lanes and other rural roads). From the investment capital of the Central and local governments, the main traffic routes have been renovated, expanded and upgraded such as: National Highways 1A, 14B, 14G, Provincial Road DT 605, Yet Kieu - Ngo Quyen - Ngu Hanh Son - Le Van Hien - Tran Dai Nghia - Tran Hung Dao - Tran Thu Do (Provincial Road DT 607); North - South railway; Tien Sa and Chu Lai seaports; Da Nang and Chu Lai airports.

Along with that, many new connecting roads were opened such as: Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway, Hoang Sa - Vo Nguyen Giap - Truong Sa - Lac Long Quan coastal road (DT 603B), DH 4 road and roads serving the operation of dams of the An Trach irrigation system, Quang Da bridge, Cam Ly bridge...

Deputy Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Traffic and Agricultural Works in Da Nang Phan Trong Tai shared that over the past 28 years, the unit has been assigned by the city to invest, construct, and upgrade traffic works in Quang Nam province from funding support from Da Nang city.

In addition to Quang Da Bridge and the approach road with a total investment of more than 274.7 billion VND, which was technically opened to traffic on March 27, 2025, in 2012, the city supported more than 13.6 billion VND and 18 bridge girders dismantled from the old Tran Thi Ly Bridge to complete the construction of Cam Ly Bridge across Yen River.

From 2014 to 2015, the city supported nearly 20.3 billion VND to invest in upgrading DT 605 road, Dien Hoa - Dien Tien section (from Km5+693.71 to Km8+543.9) with a total length of 2.357km, including 2 sections with road widths of 15m and 7m.

From 2016 to 2020, the city continued to support more than 55.2 billion VND to invest in extending Mai Dang Chon Street, from the south of Da Nang Vocational College (campus 2) to Pham Nhu Xuong Street with a total length of 1.392km, a 15m wide roadway, and 5m wide sidewalks on each side. In addition, the city also supported the investment in the construction of a traffic project in Dien Tien.

Currently, the unit is coordinating the implementation of the emergency dredging and flood drainage project of Co Co River. These projects not only help connect traffic and upgrade infrastructure, but also contribute to attracting investment, tourism, expanding urban space, developing logistics, and socio-economics.

In fact, in the process of development, over the years, the urban space and economic space of Da Nang have been constantly expanding. The connection in the planning of traffic and urban infrastructure has created a synchronous and modern urban space for socio-economic development for the area expanding beyond Da Nang. The city is the core urban area of the urban chain of Hue - Da Nang - Chu Lai, Ky Ha - Dung Quat (Van Tuong) - Quy Nhon.

New development drivers for Da Nang

More than a month ago, the People's Committee of Da Nang city issued a decision to establish a working group to research and propose investment in the construction of an urban railway connecting Da Nang - Quang Nam.

Previously, the city called for investment in a tram project from Da Nang city center to Hoi An with a total estimated investment capital of VND7,497 billion to VND14,995 billion.

The People's Committee of Quang Nam Province (old) also issued a list of investment attraction projects, prioritizing investment attraction in 2025, including calling for investment in two urban railway projects connecting Hoi An - Da Nang and Chu Lai - Da Nang. These two urban railway lines are expected to play an important role as a bridge between the dynamic urban chain of Da Nang - Dien Ban - Hoi An - Duy Hai - Tam Ky - Nui Thanh.

At the same time, it creates favorable conditions for the circulation of goods, services, and labor; promotes economic development, trade, services, and resort tourism; forms satellite cities around stations, creating an urban network that develops evenly and sustainably.

In particular, the Da Nang - Hoi An urban railway project, starting at Truong Sa Street, running along Provincial Road DT 603B to the end point at Hoi An bus station (Hai Ba Trung Street), has been integrated into the transport development planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 of both Da Nang city (old) and Quang Nam province (old) to create new development momentum.

Before the merger of Da Nang city and Quang Nam province, events took place to launch new development drivers. The city held a ceremony to announce Decision No. 1142/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on the establishment of Da Nang Free Trade Zone with a total area of 1,881 hectares, divided into 7 areas with main functions including: production, logistics, trade - services, digital technology, information technology and innovation.

Quang Nam province approved the zoning plan of the Duty Free Zone associated with Tam Hoa Port (in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone) with 3 key areas with a total area of 744 hectares including: administrative, commercial and service center with public works, hotels, commercial centers; industrial complex, warehouses and yards; port and logistics area. Notably, on June 27, at the 9th Session, the National Assembly (15th tenure) passed a resolution on the Vietnam International Financial Center located in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang City.

To create a new mark and development momentum in urban space, economy and society, the city is studying the idea of reclaiming land in Da Nang Bay with a scale of nearly 1,500 hectares including many artificial islands, creating about 48km of new coastline, to form a new urban area with the functions of a free trade zone, an international financial center associated with high-class resort and shopping tourism services.

In particular, the city plans to allocate about 350 hectares out of a total of 1,500 hectares of land reclaimed from the sea to develop high-end expert housing areas, office complexes of banking and insurance organizations, regional offices of international corporations... to serve and provide financial and commercial services, connecting development with the Da Nang Free Trade Zone.

To implement the above idea, the City People's Committee will supplement the planning of the sea encroachment area in Da Nang Bay in the process of adjusting the Da Nang City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 according to Decision No. 1287/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister in conjunction with the establishment of the Vietnam International Financial Center in Da Nang City.

The city continues to implement the master plan for socio-economic development in conjunction with the previous urban planning of each locality approved by the Prime Minister to ensure stability in urban development, infrastructure, socio-economy as well as adjust differences and connections to unify plans towards the goal of rapid and sustainable development.
