The boost from paving the way.

After years of mobilizing resources to focus on opening roads, building infrastructure, and renovating and developing the city, by June 2025, the city will have a total of 74 bridges with a length of more than 25m, totaling 14.9km (excluding bridges on expressways); and 2,498 roads with a total length of 1,458km.

Of these, urban roads have a total length of 1,109km (not including 2,446km of alleyways, lanes, and other rural roads). With investment capital from the central and local governments, major transportation routes have been renovated, expanded, and upgraded, such as: National Highways 1A, 14B, 14G; Provincial Road DT 605; the Yết Kiêu - Ngô Quyền - Ngũ Hành Sơn - Lê Văn Hiến - Trần Đại Nghĩa - Trần Hưng Đạo - Trần Thủ Độ axis (Provincial Road DT 607); the North-South railway line; Tiên Sa and Chu Lai seaports; and Da Nang and Chu Lai airports.

In addition, many new connecting roads have been opened, such as: the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway, the coastal road Hoang Sa - Vo Nguyen Giap - Truong Sa - Lac Long Quan (DT 603B), Highway 4 and roads serving the operation of dams belonging to the An Trach irrigation system, Quang Da bridge, Cam Ly bridge, etc.

According to Phan Trong Tai, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Investment and Construction Project Management Board for Transportation and Agriculture, over the past 28 years, the unit has been assigned by the city to implement investment, construction, and upgrading of transportation projects in Quang Nam province using funding from Da Nang city.

Besides the Quang Da Bridge and its approach roads, with a total investment of over 274.7 billion VND, which were technically opened to traffic on March 27, 2025, in 2012, the city provided over 13.6 billion VND and 18 bridge girders dismantled from the old Tran Thi Ly Bridge to complete the construction of the Cam Ly Bridge across the Yen River.

From 2014 to 2015, the city provided nearly 20.3 billion VND to invest in upgrading the DT 605 road section from Dien Hoa to Dien Tien (from Km5+693.71 to Km8+543.9), with a total length of 2.357km, comprising two sections with road widths of 15m and 7m.

From 2016-2020, the city continued to support over 55.2 billion VND in investment to extend Mai Dang Chon road, from the south of Da Nang Vocational College (campus 2) to Pham Nhu Xuong road, with a total length of 1.392km, a road width of 15m, and sidewalks 5m wide on each side. In addition, the city also supported the investment in the construction of a transportation project in Dien Tien.

Currently, the unit is coordinating the implementation of the emergency dredging and flood control project on the Co Co River. These projects not only help connect transportation and upgrade infrastructure, but also contribute to attracting investment, tourism, expanding urban space, and developing logistics and socio-economic aspects.

In fact, during its development over the years, Da Nang's urban and economic space has continuously expanded. The interconnected planning of transportation and urban infrastructure has created a synchronized and modern urban space to promote socio-economic development in the region extending beyond Da Nang. The city is the core urban center of the Hue - Da Nang - Chu Lai, Ky Ha - Dung Quat (Van Tuong) - Quy Nhon urban chain.

New drivers of development for Da Nang

More than a month ago, the Da Nang City People's Committee issued a decision to establish a working group to research and propose investment in the construction of an urban railway line connecting Da Nang and Quang Nam.

Previously, the city called for investment in a tram project from Da Nang city center to Hoi An with a total estimated investment of VND 7,497 billion to VND 14,995 billion.

The People's Committee of Quang Nam province (formerly) also issued a list of investment attraction projects, prioritizing investment attraction in 2025, which includes calling for investment in two urban railway projects connecting Hoi An - Da Nang and Chu Lai - Da Nang. These two urban railway lines are expected to play an important bridging role between the dynamic urban chain of Da Nang - Dien Ban - Hoi An - Duy Hai - Tam Ky - Nui Thanh.

At the same time, it facilitates the movement of goods, services, and labor; promotes economic, trade, service, and tourism development; and creates satellite cities around train stations, forming a network of evenly developed and sustainable urban areas.

In particular, the Da Nang - Hoi An urban railway project, with its starting point on Truong Sa Street and running along the provincial road DT 603B to its end point in the Hoi An bus station area (Hai Ba Trung Street), has been integrated into the transportation development plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, for both the former Da Nang city and the former Quang Nam province to create new development momentum.

Prior to the merger of Da Nang city and Quang Nam province, events were held to launch new development drivers. The city organized a ceremony to announce Decision No. 1142/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on the establishment of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone, with a total area of 1,881 hectares, divided into 7 zones with main functions including: manufacturing, logistics, trade and services, digital technology, information technology, and innovation.

Quang Nam province has approved the zoning plan for the Tam Hoa Port Free Trade Zone (part of the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone), comprising three key areas totaling 744 hectares: an administrative, commercial, and service center with public facilities, hotels, and shopping malls; an industrial complex, warehouses, and wharves; and a port and logistics area. Notably, on June 27th, at the 9th session of the 15th National Assembly, a resolution was passed regarding the establishment of a Vietnam International Finance Center in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.

To create a distinctive landmark and new impetus for urban, socio-economic development, the city is studying the idea of reclaiming land from the sea in Da Nang Bay on a scale of nearly 1,500 hectares, including many artificial islands, creating approximately 48km of new coastline, to form a new urban area with the functions of a free trade zone, an international financial center associated with high-class tourism, resort, and shopping services.

Of the total 1,500 hectares reclaimed from the sea, the city plans to allocate approximately 350 hectares to develop high-end residential areas for experts, office complexes for banking and insurance organizations, and regional offices for international corporations... serving and providing financial and commercial services, and connecting with the Da Nang Free Trade Zone.

To implement the aforementioned idea, the People's Committee of Da Nang City will supplement the land reclamation area in Da Nang Bay during the adjustment of the Da Nang City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, as per Decision No. 1287/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, in conjunction with the establishment of the Vietnam International Finance Center in Da Nang City.

The city continues to implement the overall socio-economic development plan in conjunction with the previously approved urban planning of each locality by the Prime Minister to ensure stability in urban development, infrastructure, and socio-economic development, as well as to adjust differences and integrate plans to achieve rapid and sustainable development.
