The 'fateful relationship' of two Hollywood giants Robert De Niro and Al Pacino

Film legends Robert De Niro and Al Pacino have worked together on set many times, but in real life, the similarities between their lives go far beyond their films.

Robert De Niro (79 years old) and Al Pacino (83 years old) are both from New York City, specifically Manhattan. Both actors are only children, their parents separated when they were young, and both have Italian fathers.

More than 50 years ago, the two unknown men met in their 20s. Al Pacino told GQ magazine about De Niro in a joint interview in 2019: "I still remember that meeting very clearly. It was unbelievable, I saw this guy. I thought, wow, he's charismatic. He wasn't doing anything, just walking around, but I felt something from him."

Pacino and De Niro both broke into the film industry in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The two famously starred in the 1974 sequel The Godfather Part II , with De Niro portraying a younger version of Vito Corleone in flashbacks, while Pacino played Michael Corleone in the film's present-day storyline.

The duo reunited to play a police officer (Pacino) and a career criminal (De Niro) hunting each other in 1995's Heat , marking the first time the two actors had actually appeared together on screen in more than 20 years since The Godfather Part II .

Since then, Pacino and De Niro have continued to star in films such as Righteous Kill (2008) and The Irishman (2019).

The two screen legends reunited last summer for a 50th anniversary screening of The Godfather , hosted by the Tribeca Film Festival.

De Niro and Pacino appeared on stage together at the 94th Academy Awards, where the latter part of the ceremony celebrated the great career milestone of director Francis Ford Coppola.

"I feel like moments like this should be heartfelt and brief," Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, 84, said, turning to De Niro and Pacino. "I'm so grateful to my wonderful friends who came to help me celebrate with you."

Another thing in common is that both stars in their seventies have experienced the joy of welcoming children. De Niro recently welcomed his seventh child, a baby girl named Gia, with girlfriend Tiffany Chen on April 6. In addition, De Niro has six grown children: Drena, Raphael, Julian, Aaron, Elliot and Helen.

Meanwhile, Al Pacino is soon to become a father of four. He and his girlfriend Noor Alfallah are expecting another baby, the actor's representative confirmed to People on May 30.

Alfallah, 29, has been romantically linked to Pacino since April 2022. The couple first sparked rumors when they were photographed having dinner together. Multiple sources told Page Six last year that the couple had actually been quietly dating since the pandemic.

De Niro recently welcomed his seventh child, a baby girl named Gia with girlfriend Tiffany Chen.

Pacino shares daughter Julie Marie, 33, with ex-girlfriend Jan Tarrant. He also shares 22-year-old twins Anton and Olivia with ex-lover Beverly D'Angelo, whom he dated from 1997 to 2003.

Writer Ashley Reese went viral on Twitter when she asked her followers to decide who was more attractive: De Niro or Pacino.

Twitter users banded together to ensure that both Al Pacino and Robert De Niro received an equal number of votes by the time the polls closed. "This 50/50 tie is incredible. More people voted in this poll than some local elections," Reese wrote after the final tally.
