Mong Cai: Arrested and handled 385 cases of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods

According to information from Steering Committee 389 of Mong Cai City, since the beginning of the year, functional forces in the area have increased patrolling, controlling, preventing, arresting, and promptly handling cases of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border.

Mong Cai City authorities arrested a subject illegally transporting nearly 2 tons of sausages of unknown origin and damaged from the border area into the interior for consumption.

From the beginning of 2024 to August 15, 2024, functional forces in the city have arrested and handled 385 cases/391 subjects related to smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, banned goods, and food safety violations, worth more than 12.5 billion VND, an increase of 18.1% in the number of cases and an increase of 167.65% in value compared to the same period in 2023.

Of the 385 cases/391 subjects involved in smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, banned goods, and food safety violations, there were 245 cases of illegal trading, transportation, and gathering of banned and smuggled goods; 99 cases of trade fraud and tax fraud; 41 cases of production, trading, and purchase of counterfeit goods and goods violating intellectual property rights.

The authorities have arrested and prosecuted 10 cases/16 subjects, including 02 cases/02 subjects, the evidence was 10,650 packs of cigarettes; 04 cases/08 subjects, the evidence was 54.5 kg of various types of firecrackers; 03 cases/03 subjects, the evidence was more than 1.1 billion VND in Chinese and Vietnamese currency; 01 case/03 subjects, the evidence was mobile phones, tablets and mobile phone accessories with a value of more than 1.7 billion VND.

Currently, the functional forces of Mong Cai City continue to seriously implement the directions of the Central Government and the province in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods. In particular, synchronously deploy professional measures to manage and control assigned areas, resolutely not allowing the formation of smuggling hotspots. Seriously and effectively implement the Plan for preventing and combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in 2024 of the Provincial Steering Committee 389.
